Close the door lightly.

Bridle the breath. Our little Angel

Is talking with death ;

Gently he woo* her, She wishes to stay,

His arms are about her—

lie bears her away!

Music comes floating Down from the dome, Angels are chanting The sweet welcome home. Come, stricken weeper,

Come to the lad,

(iiizo on the sleeper—

Our idol is dead!

Smooth out the ringlets, , Close the blue eye— No wonder such beauty Was claimed in tie) sky; Cross the hands gently O'er the white bread, So iiko a wild spirit Strayed from the hlrd:

Bear her out softly, This idol of ours,

Let her grave slumbers He mid the sweet Uowors.

Thick and Long. A testy lawyer in court found himself bothered with a knotty witness, who wouldn’t explain, as be dcsirsd, the difference between the “ thick and “long” kinds of whalebone. “Why, man," said he, “you don't scent to know the distinction between thick and long.” “Ya's, I dew.” “Explain it. then.” “Wa’ul, you’re thick-headed, hut you ain’t long-beaded, no how !’’ said he. —• + • How He Knew Ills Jb'utiler. At a justice’s court in the (ireen Mountain State, some years ago, the following amusing incident oceurcd. A very ill-natured and ijuarelsome person was concerned in a street brawl one night and got a blow from somebody, which resulted in a black eyeandasuit for assault and battery. In the course of the trial a sun of the plaintiff was called to the witness stand—a regular “chip of the old block”—about fifteen years of age. The boy testified to some knowledge of the affray, but could not give any particulars, as the night was an exceedingly dark one. “Now, sir,” said the cross-examining ! attorney, “will you venture to swear that j your father was there at all?” “Yes, sir; 1 know he was there." “But you say you did not see him nor i hear him speak ; how, then, 1 ask, did j you know he was present ?” “Why, i ll tell you. As I came out j of the gate I heard Joe Smith (the defeu-1 dant) holler out, ‘there goes the old devil!’ and I knew he meant dad." ♦♦♦ Genuine Kloculicncc. There is no people in the world with whom eloquence is so universal a gift as the Irish. When Leigh Ritchie was tra veiling in Ireland, he passed a man who was a painful spectacle of pallor, squalor, and raggedness. His heart smote him and he turned back. “Ifyou arc in want,” ■ said Ritchie, with some degree of peev ish - ness—“why do nt you beg?” “Sure it’s begging 1 am, yer honor; hut see how the skin is spakiu’ through the holes of, me trousers ! and the bones crying out through mo skinl Look at me sunken checks, the famin’ that’s starin' in me eyes ! Man alive! it s hogging I am with a hundred tongue*!"

A young man who ardently'desired wealth, was visited by his Satanic Majesty. who tempted him to promise his soul for eternity, if ho could he supplied on this earth with all tlie money he could use. The bargain was concluded—the devil was to supply the money and was at last to have the soul, unless the young man could spend more money than the devil could furnish. \ cars passed awa\ —the man married and was extravagant in his living, built palaces, speculated wildly—lost and gave away fortunes, nnd yet his coffers were always full.— Ho turned politician, and bribed bis wav to power and fame, without reducing his pile of gold. JI« became a “fillibuster,” aud fitted out ships and armies, but his banker honored all bis drafts. He went to St. 1'aul to live, and paid tho usual rates of interest for all the money lie could borrow, but though the devil made wry faces when he came to pay the bills, yet they were all paid. One expedient after another failed—the devil counted the time, only two years, that be must wait for tlie aoul. and mocked the efforts of the despairing man. One more trial was resolved upon—the man started a newspaper! The devil growled at the bills at tlie end of the first quarter, was savage in six months, inclaneholv in nine, nnd broke, “dead broke,” at the end of n y ea, ‘- Ho the .newspaper went down, i Fid the ■<oiiI ivio ■ ived

accompanies the other properties of the Pills while engaged in purifying tho blood; the coarser particles of impurity w lijoli.iinnot pass by the other outlets, are thus taken up and o>nveyed off in greater quantities by the howels. From the above, it is shown that Dr. Morse's Indian Root Pills not only enter the stomach hut become united w ith the blood, for they find wav to every part, and completely rout out ami cleanse the system from all impurity, ami the life of the body, whieh is the blood, heroines perfect 1 v health v; consequently all sink ness ami pain b driven from the system, for they cannot remain w hen the body becomes so pure and |

clear.

The reason why people arc so distressed when sick, and why so many die, is liecause they do not get a medicine which will pass to tlieatllieted parts, and which w ill open the natural pas- ; sages for the disease to be cast out; hence a large quantity of food and other matter is lodged, and the stomach and intostiiicsarc literally overflowing with the corrupted mass; thus undergoing disagreeable fermentation, constantly mixing with the Mood, which throws the corrupted: matter through every vein ami artery, until life i- lakeii from the Itody by disease. Dr. I Morse's PlLI.s linn added to themselves v'n-to-ry upon victory, by restoring million-of the sick to blooming health and happiness. Ye-, thousands who have been rucked or tormented , with sickness, pain and anguish, ami whose fee- i hie frames have been scorched by the burning elements of raging fever, and who have been | brought, as it were, within a step of the silent I grave, now stand ready to testify that they would havelieen numbered with the dead, had i it not been for this great and wonderful mod- 1 ieine, Morse's Indian Root Fills. After one or two (I had been taken, they were atdon-1 11 shed, and absolutely surprised, in witnessing their charming effects. Not only do they give immediate ease and strength, nnd take away ' all sicknc-s, pain and anguish, (nit they at once I go to work at the foundation of the disease. J whieh is the blood. Therefore, it will be shown, j especially by those who use these Pill-, that they w ill so cleanse and purify, that di-ease— that deadly enemy—will take its flight, and the Hush of youth and beauty will again return, and the prosiHH’t of a long and happy life will cherish and brighten your days.
