TO Ot KM BSCRIBERS.
With the ensuing number of the iVcsi!, the first half year of its existence terminates. The subscriptions of a number of our readers will then fall due; we trust they will meet their engagements as promptly as we have performed ours.— The paper has been issued every week with almost unfailing regularity on the day of publication, which should go far in removing all doubts, as to its permanancy. With but a limited patronage at first, the circulation of the 7Vmm has steadily increased, until it is now exceeded bv few. if any, of its country cotemporaries. We arc duly grateful to our friends for the support they have so generously extended to us, and shall endeavor to merit its continuance. We doubt not the citizens of Putnam realize the advantages to the community of a permanent journal not less devoted to the interests of both town and county than to the success of a political organ-
ization.
The ensuing six months will be fraught with events of rare importance to the general reader, the faithful and prompt record of which will impart increased interest to our columns. An extra ses sion of our State Legislature will commence on the 20th of November, and its acts, together with tho-c of the regu lar session following soon alter, will attract no small share of public attention. The proceedings of Congress, which body will convene on the first Monday in December, are at all times posessed of importance, and anxiously sought after by the intelligent reader. The legislation of the ensuing session bids fair to rival its predecessors in matters of national concern. Its acts will also furnish a fair index to future movements on ihc political chess board. The most important doings of both national and State assemblies will receive due attention at our hands, and will he presented in a clear, concise and reliable manner. Our columns will also contain the news of the day, both general and local; a report of the markets, at home and abroad; miscellaneous reading of the choicest kind ; a variety of articles upon agricultural and scientific subjects; an occasional talc, and other reading of a humorous, instructive and elevating character. We shall spare no pains to make our paper an acceptable visitor to each and every
fireside.
In reference to the future politics of the it is only necessary to say that it will continue, a heretofore, wholly and thoroughly Democratic in heart and sen-
timent.
