It Is a disease which does not get well of itselL It requires careful, persistent attention, and a remedy to throw off the causes and tone up the digestive organs till they perform their duties willingly. Speech by the Prohibition Candidate Last Night.

4

A Good|Speaker Who Was Listened to Throughout Attentively.

Hon. T.|E. Ballard, Prohibition ctmdidate for Congress, addressed a fairsized audience in the cirouit court room of the court house last evening. Had it not been for the Maynard—Debs speaking it is fair to presume the house would have been crowded. Through the entire speech Mr. Ballard commanded the closest attention of the audience and his remarks were 'frequently applauded. The meeting was opened by a prayer by Rev. Goodman. Mr. J. E. Martin introduced the speaker in a shortkaddrees. Mr. $ajjard said: "Tou vote for the candidates for Congress because they are representatives of parties and not for the men themselves not for what they have done but for what you expect them to do. You and I care nothing about the 109 votes. A plank in the Republican platform of Indiana in 1868 said that the public debt made necessary by the rebellion be paid in greenbacks. The Republicans obtained the Greenback vote that year but went back on their platform. Sherman was the financial head. He was endorsed by Johnston and everv promise made them has been violated. The Republicans claimed they would make the bonds payable in gold or silver coin. The Republican party is as far from the Nationals as the north is from the south and it never was in harmony with it. Senator Ben Harrison in a public speech denounoed the Nationals as idiots and Johnston is standing side by side with him and asking you to send him back to Congress. Mr. Johnston will tell you he is as good a Greenbacker as you are. Lamb will toll you the samel thing. If Mr. Lamb is in earnest you have three candidates for Congress, I have a profound sympathy for the Republican party because it has no candidate for Congress. They ought to meet and nominate a man that will stand on their platform.

Mr. Ballard read the plank in the platforms of the Democrats and Republican of 1881 pertaining to the tariff question and said that both platforms were alike. The only difference I see between Lamb and Johnston, and they are both personal friends of mine, that ONE IS A BLONDE AND THE OTHEB

BRUNETTE.

The power to issue coin and paper be longs to the Congress of the United btates and if the Prohibition party gets into power the Congress will be given the power. If the Prohibition .party ever gets in power it will banish the evils of the liquor traffic. The liquor traffic can only be destroyed by direct legislation. We will make it a crime against the stars and stripes to sell liquor. The Prohibition party is growing twice as fast as the abolition party did and if we ever get, jinto power with• "ttncle Sam" behind the law we will kill the liquor traffic. Ohio and Illinois, two Republican states, can furnish 3,000 more saloon keepers than the entire solid south. Every liguor dealer destroys two homes a year. Wm, Cumback and other non-partisan prohibitionists are working in the interests of the Republican party. If Johnston will say that if elected he will vote for the abolition of the liquor traffic I will withdraw in his favor. No. He will not do it but he wants the Prohibitionists' vote. I have a profound sympathy for the rarty that has forsaken the platform on which they were born. I would like to be master of ceremonies at the death of both the old parties. Some do not vote for the Prohibition party because they do not want to throw away their vote. My advice to you is that you wait until after election and then you are sure of voting on the strong side. A vote which expresses your honest convictions is never thrown away.

The Democratic party in 1884 endorsed the platform of the Liquor Dealers' National organization. When a great party endorses the liquor dealers' platform it is high time for all temperance men to leave that party.

Mr. Ballard read several resolutions from religious denominations endorsing the Prohibition party.

THE TERfUS HAUTE WEEKLY GAZETTE.

A Special Announcement.

The one thing that every enterprising newspaper publisher covets above every other thing is a large circulation for his paper. This is what he plans for, hopes for, strives for continually, with all the ability there is in him. To this end he improves his paper, sends canvassers into the field to work for it, distributes "sample oopiee" wherever he thinks they may do any good—in short, does everything he knows how to push bis circulation up to a big figure and hold there. And, always, the more subscribers he gets, the more he wants. Because, of course, the larger the circulation the better he oan make the paper and the more money he can get for the advertising space in it "If you have the circulation, everything else comes," is an old saying in the newspaper business.

So much, preliminary~ to the special announcement we have to make. We are going to put the circulation of this paper up to 20,000 copies. It has, as our readers well know, a vastly larger circulation already, than any of its local competitors. But this does not satisfy us. Its present circulation, we are confident, can be doubled, and more than oubled, by means of the inducements we shall this year be able to offer. We intend that the Weekly Gazette shall have a list of at least 20,000 paid-up subscribers before it is a year older! This is no empty boast. We know precisely what we are talking about We shall get the subscribers!

We have had a large edition of a splendid household medical work, "Our Family Physioian," printed especially for the use of this paper as a premium. The book is as standard and we 1 known in many parts of the country as Webster's Dictionary. It has been selling steadily for years, and is recommended by physicians of every school. The regular retail price is $3.00. It sells for that everywhere, and is worth it By buying a very large number of them at one time, we have been able to secure a rate by which we can afford to offer this $3 book and a year's subscription to the Weekly Gazette, both for $2:00!

This is more for the money than has ever been offered by any newspaper in the country!

The book is a standard authority, and will prove a blessing to any family into which it comes. We have thoroughly investigated its authorship and reputation, and know both to be first class. It is a work that can be relied upon absolutely.

In circulating this book, we shall fee that we are doing our friends and the public a valuable servioe. Some such book ought to be in every family, and we confidently believe, and have the tes timony of hundreds of people confirming it, that this one is the best, most practical, and easiest-understood that there is. In the average family—especially where there are children—the money paid every year for doctors' bills is a heavy tax. Much of it might be saved but for the ignorance of the people as to what the illness is and what to do for it. Nine timep out of ten it is merely some little temporary disorder from which the patient would recover in a few hours, as well without a physician as with one—perhaps better. But, not knowing what is the matter, and giving way to fear, a doctor is summoned, and there is one or two visits to pay for—certain to amount to more, on one single occasion, than we ask for our book and paper both.

The book will save money, and it will not only save money, butk it will save lots, of anxiety. It is a book that every family ought to have, -and no ordinary family oan afford to be without a copy. $2.00 pays for the book and a year's subscription to the Weekly Gazette. Old subscribers by paying up arrearages can get the book the same as others for we owe a debt of gratitude to our old friends.

HEADACHE AND DYSPEPSIA

.'

No. 512 West 57th St., N, r.f) June 19,1885, I have been a martyr to bilious headache and dyspepsia. Any indiscretion in diet, over-fatigue, or cold, brings on a fit of indigestion, to be followed by a headache lasting two or three days at a time. I think I must have tried over twenty different remedies, which were recommended as certain cores by loving friends, but it was no use. Like the Irishman, I got no better very fast At last I thought I would take a simple course of purgation with Brandreth's Pills. 'iPor the first week, I took two Pills every night, tben one Pill for thirty nights in that time I gained three pounds in weight, and never have had an ache or a pain since.

THE SPEAKER OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK. fisjft $

State of New York,

Assembly Chamber, Albany, 'i-Wi April, 16,1886.) My family for the last twelve years have been using Alloock's Porous Plas ters, and have found them wonderfully efficacious in coughs, colds, and pains in the side and back.

About ten years ago I was thrown from a wagon and badly praised. In three days these plasters entirely removed the pain and soreness. Twice they have cured me of severe colds which threatened pulmonary trouble. They also cured my son of rheumatism in the shoulder, from which he had suffered two years. James W. Husted.

No medicine has ever been known so effectual in the cure of all those diseases arising from an impure condition of the blood as Soovill's Sabsapbilla, or Blood and Liver Syrup for the cure of Scrofula, White Swelling, Rheumatism, Pimples, Blotches, Eruptions, Venereal Soret and Diseases, Consumption, Goitre, Boils, Cancers, and all kindred diseases. No better means of securing a beautiful conplexion can be obtained than by using SCOVILL'S BLOOD and LIVER SYRUP, which cleanses the blood and gives beauty to the skin.

The first Keen Twinge.

As the season advances, the pains and aches by which rheum atism makes self known, are experienced after every exposure. It is not claimed that Hood's Sarsaparilla is a specific for rheumatism—we doubt if there is, or can be, such a remedy. But the thousands benefited by Hood's Sarsaparilla, warrant us in urging others who suffer from rheumatism to take it before the first keen twinge.

Wm. Keurne, of Bethel, Va, who' is the father of twenty-eight children, reached his ninety-second year recently.

Facts Worth Knowing.

In all diseases of the nasal mucous membrane the remedy used must be non-irritating. The medical profession has been slow to learn this. Nothing satisfactory can be accomplished with douches, snuffs, powders, syringes, astringents or any similar application, because they are all irritating, do not thoroughly reach the affected surfaces and should be abandoned as worse than failures. A multitude of persons who had for years borne all the worry and pain that catarrh can inflict, testify to radical and permanent cures wrought by Ely's Cream Balm.
