A HUFFY" HUSBAND.

His Queer Presentiment And Awful Wrath. NEW YORK, July 14.—At two o'clock yesterday morning, James Carey, a baker, of Newark, N. J-, exclaimed "I will bet some one is in my house" and putting on his coat, started for home. Carey on entering his house, went at once to his wife's bed room. He saw a hat and coat on the floor which did not belong to him. His wife lay still in bed as if asleep. A hurried inspection of the premises convinced him that the intruder was not in the house. Hurrying into the yard, he found Matthew Purcell, a baker, in scant apparel, secreted in a shed. Carey made a rush for him but Purcell nimbly scaled a fence and ran down Crane street Carey then entered the house and walked straight to his wife's bed room. He looked the door and then wrenohed a rung from a chair. Without a word of warning he walked over to the bed upon which his wife was lying and struck her with the rung on the top of her head. She screamed, and, springing from the bed, fell upon her knees, begging him not to murder her. He answered her only with a succession of heavy blows with the chair rung. Her cries attracted the attention of Mrs. Lindsey who lives on the floor above. She ran down stairs, and finding the door of Mrs. Carey's room locked, she burst it from its hinges. She weighs nearly 200 pounds. Carey had his wife by the hair and was raining savage blows upon her upturned face. Mrs. Lindsey rushed at him and tried to drag him from his victim. In the scuffle which followed, Carey's shirt was torn from his back and Mrs. Lindsey was thrown in one corner. The neighbors rushed into the room and rescued Mrs. Carey who was then insensible. Carey took Purcell's hat and coat into the street and made a bonfire of them. He then returned to his work. Mrs. Carey's right arm, two ribs and jaw are broken she has thirteen scalp wounds and her ~body is bruised all over. Her condition is not necessarily fatal, however. Carey waa arrested.
