The City Threatened With a Big Law Suit —The Award of the New City Hall. VINOENNES, July 7.—[GAZETTE special.]—At a meeting of the city council last week sealed proposals for the construction of the new $50,000 City Hall were received. That of Herman Piel the builder of Green's Opera House this city, with an unexceptionable bond accompanying, was among the number. Another bid came from Chas. Pearce, of Indianapolis, the builder of the Knox oounty court house and several other elegant buildings in Vinoennes. Piel's bid was the lowest by some 81,200, but last night the council awarded the contract to Chas. Pearce and today great dissatisfaction is expreesed at the action of the oouncil, especially by home meohpnics and Mr. Piel says today that he will sue the oity for the amount of his bii, and a good sized law suit against the city of Vinoennes is expected.

An Elopement, The Couple Being Warried Standing up in The Road. BUKNETT, Ind., July 8.—[GAZETTE special]—A slight bit of a romance happened at this plaoe last Sunday. Mr. Bennie Brooks and 'VMiss Victoria Worthington eloped and were married near Creal's mill. Dr. J. S. Leachman, justice of the peace, performed the ceremony. The couple standing up in the road having the marriage ceremony said was quite an interesting scene to behold. Their remarks to the justice were "for God's sake hurry up for we believe the old lady is after us." Miss Worthington will be fourteen her next birthday, very young to take the trials and cares of a married life, and Mr. Brooks will be twenty-five on his next birthday. Mr. Bennie Brooks is a brother of Mr. Brooks who married Mrs. Worthington about two years ago. The daughter will be a sister-in-law to her mother. May Miss Victoria live long and enjoy life, never having a cause to regret her elopement with Mr. Brooks is the wish of her friends.—The picnic at this plaoe last Saturday passed off very quietly. There was not a large crowd but every one seemed to enjoy themselves nioely. —The party at Burs. Jennie Uoty'e Monday evening was a grand success—Mr. Frees intended having a private ioe oream party Sunday, but there were so many to come in that it was more of a public picnio—John Porter has begun threshing first at Joseph A. Creal's so the neighbors will hear the buzz of the machine for a few days—Mrs. Stark, of Rosedale, died Monday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Humphreywere called to the funeral Tuesday—The oorn in this vicinity is needing rain very bad.
House are anxious to see this bill go through. The Republican members from rural districts are especially solicitous for early action on the part of the Senate, as they recognize the fact that the passage of the bill through the Democratic House would be a powerful political campaign material in case the Republican Senate should fail to do likewise. For this reason, members of the lower house who aided in securing the passage of the bill are very industriously at-work among thejr friends in/ the Senate, and expect to nave the bill ready for the President's signature bj

It Will Certainly Be Passed by the Senate During the Present Week. WASHINGTON, July 6.—[Indianapolis Journal special]—The Senate will undoubtedly pass the bogus butter bill during the present week. The opponents of the measure have been very industrious for several days past, attempting to create the impression that the advocates ot the bill have quarreled among themselves, and that there is a big scandal growing out of the disposition(of the fund subscribed by the farmers to aid in securing the legislation which they so much desire.
