George Wilkes, sire of Jersey Wilkes, was by Rysdyk's Hamblelivian. The dam of George Wilkes was a daughter of Henry Clay, founder of the Clay family. Jersey Wilkes is a natural trotter as a five year old he trdtted a trial in 2:34M and could have been driven in 2:30 but his development was only SQ far as to warrant his owner in waiting until he was more mature. It has been the aim to keep him all sound and free from blemishes" until matured, when he will be driven for a record, and barring accidents, he must go in 2:20. Jersey Wilkes was purchased as a yearling at public auction for $4,010 expressly for a stock' horse. A number of gentlemen were invited to look at this high-bred animal today. He is not particularly large, only one of George Wilkes' colts are— but he is beautifully made and Lis color is perfection itself. He is remarkably quiet with a tine head and wide space between the eyes.
