New York Sun in discussing the
reason why money- is locked up now in the vaults of the banks gives .utterance to opinions which the GAZETTE believes to be true but which it confesses to some astonishment at iinding in the columns of a paper printed under the deadly shade of the Wall street Upas tree. The Sun says:
1
Conversely, the establishment of the silver dollar as the monetary standard would break the deadlock and cause trade to revive. For, while gold has been rising in value silver has kept company with the other products of human industry, and is therefore a truer measuue of their value. The fall in prices would be arrested, and men could make investments with a reasdhable assurance of profitable returns."

the way in which President Cleveland is resolutely enforcing the law against all offenders and in the interest of the whole people an admiring exchange says: K|M "It is beginning to dawn upon the public mind with rosy morning freshness that the present Administration will be no respecter of persons so far as the execution of the law is concerned. The mightiest combinations of capital and influence will stand before the law on precisely tbe same level as the ind vidual oitizen of the humblest type, and questions of legal right will be determined without bias from the magnitude of the interest involved. When the whisky men failed to obtain an- extension of the bonded period from Congress, they succeeded in obtaining substantially the same thing from the Department ruling. This was such a hairsplitting construction of the text of the statutes that, by a little more hairsplitting, they tried to convert the seven months' extension into a virtual release from liability to pay the whisky tax. They represent a great many millions of dollars, a potent influence ramified through many communities and states, Many banks are deeply interested in their relief, and they counted on the weight of all this influence with the Administration. But they are as bitterly disappointed as the trespassing cattle barons were. Attorney-General Garland has decided that their exportation bonds will be forfeited at the end of the seven months' extension, and that the government may then proceed to collect, either upon the forfeited bonds or by the usual method of distraint, and he recommends tbe latter as the safest and most expeditious plan. So they are obliged to go to work and pay the tax right away, or see their whisky all sold for taxes. mmmsmsmssmmammmmmmm
A TELEGRAM from Madrid brings news of a fatal thunderbold which fell last week upon a church at Gerona while mass was being celebrated in the building. Two of the worshippers were struck by the lightning and instantly killed, while fifteen other persons in the congregation were severely hurt. "If these casualties had occured on a Sunday picnic instead of in a church,' says the New York Sun "and to people engaged in amusing themselves instead of worshipping God, there would have been many to think and say that the fire from Heaven was simply an instrument of punishment from the haqd of an offended Deity, to signify displeasure at a transgression of His laws.
The doctrine of special providence, however, becomes peculiarity^ unsafcissactory in cases like this."

"The real obstacle to enterprise and the real weight that drags dawn trade, both here and abroad, is the go® standard. As Mr. Atkinson truly euough says, the doubt as to whether the standard of value will remain the same deters men from making new investments. The gold standard, instead of being fixed and steady, has been rising higher for the past ten years, and accordingly all kind of commodities have been falling. Whatever a man has bought or produced, he has been obliged to sell for a little less than it cost him, and both trade and manufactures have therefore been unprofitable. For all that appears, gold will go on rising and prices will go on falling for some time to come, aud until capitalists can be assured that the bottom has been reached they naturally prefer to wait. Their gold dollars, measured in merchandise, are growing bigger and bigger all the while, and they can gain more by sitting still than they can by going to work.

does look queer to see an old man like Dr. Pence, who have practiced medicine in this city for twenty years or more, calling at the county clerk's office under the operations of the new law, to get a license to practice his profession. The physicians generally look on the law as a good one and believe its effect will be to drive out of the ptate a large number of quacks who have profited by the looseness of the law on the subject.

A Popular Conductor Says:
I consider it my duty to impart some very valuable information to my friends and acquaintances as many of them know the unpleasant condition under which I have labored in performing my duties as conductor of the Georgia Central railroad.
Some months ago 1 become afflicted with a severe attack of Rheumatism, and I desire to stite how I was cured. It increased in violence until I could no longer get in and out of the cars without assistance.
While thus suffering all the agonies of this dread disease and ready to abandon my position through sheer necessity, I was induced to try EB.B. THE EFFECT WAS TRULY MAQICAL. I had no idea that a medicine could produce such an effect in so short a time. I experienced a wonderful chauge before using half a bottle. After tafcing only four bottles, I find myself today a well man. This splendid medicine effected a cure no less wonderful in the case of my wife, who was also terribly afflicted with Rheumatism. She obtained complete relief and perfect restoration to health after taking the same number of bottles I did. 1 take milch pleasure in recommending B. B. B. to my friends as FIRST CLASS, I refer to Mr. R. Schmidt, Agent C. R., Atlanta, and to C. R. R. Agent, Macon, and Dr. Hape, Atlanta.'
