LUCILLE YSEULT.DUDLEY.
"She is Sent to the Insane Asylum."^ NBW YORK, July 2.—The case of Mrs. Lucille Yseult Dudley, who was acquitted on the ground of insanity of felonious assault shooting O'Donovan Bossa, was up in court again toddy. Before the proceedings began, a woman laboring under excitement appeared at the door of the court room. She was prevented from entering when she announced herself as a dynamiter. She Baid that Mrs. Dudley was no more insane than she (the speaker) was and asked why Mrs. Dudley was not sent to jail like other people. When told to leave the building she refused and was arrested and taken to a police court. Mrs. Dudley was in court, but was confined in the prison pen. Judge Gildersleeve, the district attorney and the prisoner's oonnsel held a long consultation at the end of which the court denied the motion to transfer Mrs. Dudley to the English asylum. The district attorney suggested that she be sent to the state asylum at Auburn, but Judge Gild /rsleeve expressed his preference for the Middletown asylum, and sent Mrs. Dudley there to be confined indefinitely. When notified of the disposition of her case, the prisoner said she was satisfied that she needed rest and seclusion, and expected to be benefitted by the treatment in Middletown. She will probably be taken to her new quarters tomorrow.

OVERTON'S FUNERAL.
Serious Sickness of Sevellan Wveth, RILEY POSTOFFIOE, July 3.—[GAZETTE special]—Geo. Overton's funeral took place here yesterday. The facts of his death may not be familiar to your readers. Last Saturday he was riding rapidly in town and in making a corner his horse slipped and he fell off, striking his head, producing concussion of the brain. He never rallied or regained consciousness and died after three days. The deceased was 23 years of age. He was a son of Mr. Overton the. plaintiff in the somewhat celebrated Overton Carter fence suit.
SERIOUSLY SICK.
Sevellan Wyeth, an old resident of Riley, is lying very low at his residence and is not expected to live.
Ohio Prohibitionists.
SpaiflGFiEiiD, O., July 2.—The state prohibition convention reassembled at 10 o'clock this morning in the wigwam. The following named persons were elected as permanent officers: president, B. L. Higley, of Mahoning secretary, Mrs. Mary A. Woodbridge, of Portage first assistant, P. C. Payne, of Franklin second assistant, Erastus D. Lewis, of Trumbull. The president addressed the convention at length. Rev. M. Dustin nominated for governor Rev. A. B. Leonard, D. D., of Springfield, following with an address. Rev. H. A. Thompson, of Otterbein university, seconded the nomination, and Dr. Leonard was nominated by acclamation. A committee was appointed to inform him of the fact and to escort him to the wigwam. On his arrival he was presented to the convention, was greeted with applause and proceeded to deliver an address of acceptance. 'xl v? i'

MADRID, July 3.—During the "past 12 hours there were 50 new cases of cholera in Valencia, 105 new cases in Aranguez and 5 new cases and one death in Madrid. Throughout Spain there were 1,354 new cases and 664 deaths., 4
SECRETARY MANNING'S course in the case of Rellar, the Ohioan who had passed the civil service examination and was entitled to a place under the civil service rules, in giving him the place in spite of certain political opposition was right and will be generally commended all over the country. His statement that he intended to strictly observe the civil service law in his department and the evidence of his sincerity furnished by his promptly assigning Kellar to duty, will find favor everywhere. The country has been lifted to a higher plane of honesty by President Cleveland's administration.

THE TERRE HAUTE WEEKLY GAZETTE
FRENCH socialists have issued their platform of principles for the coming election. Of this platform there are twenty planks. They are for the most part, and baring some sensible ideas, a remarkably breezy set of declarations and worth perusal as curiosities. They are in the form of demands and are as follows:
The abolitioh' of th6 pWsidency. Tho abolition of the senate. Bestowal upon the assembly of the power to dismiss ministers of state. The settlement of ail questions of war and of constitutional revision by popular votei. A reduction of the number of public officers and official's Balary The confiscation of church property. The separation of church and state. The legal equality of illegitimate and legitimate children. The gradual abolition of Btanding armies. Tho free education of children at the public expense and the free feeding of children at tne public expense in all cases where they are not otherwise properly provided for. Political amnesty. The abolition of the extra duties. The establishment of a progressive income tax. The abolition of collateral inheritance. The gradual abolition of the public debt Seduction in the hours of labor. Prohibition of the employment of children under 14 years of acje. A reorganization, of the bank of France. Prison reform. The maintenance of disabled workmen at the public expense.
SPAIN is fifty to a hundred years behind the age in education and progress, and innovations on time-honored usages make their way into public favor slowly and with difficulty. Although the cholera is known to be epidemic in Madrid, the merchants and tradesmen there are up in arms because the authorities proclaimed the truth in regard to the disease, and propose now to close their places of business for twenty-four hours and drape them in mourning as a silent protest against the action of the officials. The residents of the better quarters of the city refuse to allow their premises to be disinfected by the health authorities, and became so violent in their demonstrations as to compel the suspension of all sanitary precautions. Such people should be left to their fate and allowed to perish in the filth by which they are surrounded, and which they seem to love.
SITTING BULL, while in Washington, was interviewed by Major Reno as to the number of Indians who were at the Custer massacre. "By the aid of his fingers, the Indian called to mind that there were seven tribes." He said the bands occupied "over 700 teppees." If he knew how to state the number of teppees approximately, the alleged effort, by the aid of his fingers, to call to mind the number of tribes is evidently a reflection upon his mathematical ability. His statement, also, that there were between 5,000 and 6,000 Indians, indicates that he has more than a finger knowledge of mental arithmetic, or else he is one of the leading liars of his race. The latter is not improbable.
OHIO prohibitionists in state convention at Springfield nominated a full state ticket yesterday as follows: For Governor, Rev. A. B. Lemard, D. D., of Springfield Lieutenant-Governor, Prof. W. G. Frest, of Lorraine county Supreme Judge, Gideon Stewart, of Huron Treasurer, John H. Danner, of Starke Attorney-General, A. T. Clevinger, of Clinton Board of Public Works, J. S. Neville, of Hardin. The platform denounces both the old parties, opposes all license taxes or regulations of the liquor traffic and demands a prohibition amendment of the strictest sort to the constitution. ,s
EX-SENATOB JONAS, of Louisiana, who has been appointed collector of customs at New Orleans, ought to have an easy time of it in making a record which will stand a creditable comparision with his predecessors. Beginning with the time when Col. Casey was appointed collector for no other reason than that he was a relative of the Grant family, the whole custom house hgs fairly run over with conscienceless rascals. The whole place should be sprinkled a foot deep with chloride of lime.
LAST month the public debt'was reduced 38,500,000. For the year ending July 1, '85 the receipts from customs were $181,116,770.89 internal revenue, $112,569,324.37 miscellaneous, $28,910,680.88. For the year the ordinary expenses were $153,005,194.14 pensions, $58,395,738.71 interest, $51,387,519.57. Thns the receipts exceeded the expenditures in round numbers some $60,000,000. Our financial condition is eminently satisfactory.
JoS^ph Mackin, the Chicago election rascal whose attempted frauds were of the most brazen character, was yesterday convicted of perjury in his evidence at the former tried, and sentenced to five years in the penitentiary. He should be sent over the road. The sentence is a just one. Let all rascais of that sort be punished. if
W. W. CITRBY, well known here in Terre Haute, was one of-the clerks in the pension department recently dismissed. He ran for Secretary of State against John E. Neff, by whom he was defeated. Appointed originally for his political activity he loses his place by the same token.
