Governor Cleveland to Give a Reception to His Neighbors.,

Returning Social Courtesies—The Unremitting Attention ef the Albanians Their Bachelor .•

Gove' /—Hie Future vement8.

ALBANY, N. Y-, Dec. 18.—Governor Cleveland has decided to pay his social debts by one comprehensive reception ntxt week. Tuesday evening, the 28d insf., he will receive at the Executive Macsien, the many friends in Albary at whose hands he has received social courtesies. Ever siace he came here the cultivated residents, the people with plersaat homes, have been unremitting ia their at. tcctions and have bad him pmong them as their guest from time to time. There is hardly a prominent Albanian to whoiL the Pre3idtnt elect is not indebted for pleasant dinners and rfceptions. Now tbat hie sisters, Mrs. Hoyt and Miss Cleveland, have made their home at the Execut.ve Mansion, he tekes this opporiunity to return a few of his favors received. The reception will be in n«i sense a Governor's levee. The invitations are lin ited and are confined sole.y to the personal friends in Albany at whose bouses the Governor has visited. It is in -ome respects a farewell reception.

AKOTHER PATRIOTIC CRANK,

with a present for Governor Cleveland, came io tiie front yesteiday. His scheme was not so much to get into the good graces of the President-elect as to secure a paying advertisement for himself, at a slight cost. But the argus-eyed, redheaded boy at the door blocked bis little game even before he had time to send in his card to one of the Executive's clerks, and he went away swcariDg that the Dem ocratic party was not what it used to be. The long ante-rooni) just off tbe Executive chamber, was lined tfith the usual rows of expectant visitors, anxiously waiting for the President-elect to receive them, when the gentleman with the scheme in his head and parcel in his hand came He placed the parcel on a table aud went up to tell the re i-headed boy ot the nice present he had bought the Governor. And tbe bird, to prove his owner's words and to show bis true Democratic principles, startled the waiting callers by shrieking out :he old refrain, "Burn—bum— burn this lotter!". The gentleman inly Iried to turn the crank and shut off the voluble flow of words, but the parrot was persistent and croaked away, one after another, tbe old campaign cries of Democratic paraders. Finally the truth wa hammered into the b'rd owner's heat that the President

DID NOT NEED A TARKOT,

aud, after scattering his business cards ab'iut, the man took himself, his scheme and the bird away. His cards said he was an importer ot valuable birds, and bis place of business was put down as street, New York. But he didn't get tbe advertisement.

John Jay, Augustus Schoenmaker and Henry A. Richmond, of tbe civil esrvice commission, had along talk with the Governor to-day, and presented anew set ot rules which he finally signed. The new ru'es are stricter than the old ones, especially in the examinations of health officers. There are some 1,800 of these officials in the State, and in view of this possible visitation of cholera next ysar, great care will be exercised in the selecof health officers.

A Queer Case.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., December 17.—A rr-mjrkable divorce case was heard In tbe superior court to-day. In June,1883, during the flood of tbat season, a bridge over Pogue's Bun was washed away and a number of persons drowned. Among the bodies recovered was one supposed to be that of John Ackermann. The remains were identified by his wife and he was judicially pronounced defunct by the cuiouer. A few months ago, however, a IBHH claiming to be Ackermann turned up here and was given general recognition as such. Mr?. Ackermann, however, refuses to receive him or countenance bim in any manner whatever. Ackermann, however, was pertinacious, and to get rid ot him she brought suit for divorcb". Ackermann bad previously given ber good cause for such a proceeding, and the court to-day granted her a decree.

Mr. Buchanau, a short man with a large hebd, told the jnry that Hesse's transfer of tbe policy to Mrs. Houser was a private matter between themselves, and in no way affected or bound the uump&uy, and that when Louisa Iies»e died, notwithstanding the transfer, which was void, the company would pay the policy on her death, providing ttie premiums had been kept up. Mr. Buchanan told Mr. Eggleston that a judgment in this court would amount to nothing, as it would be reversed by the Supreme Court.
