Approaching Nuptials in the Astor Mansion—The Bride's Trousseau. NEW YORK, Oct. 30.—Invitations to the coming Astor-Wil6on nuptials will be issued next week, and the wedding will be solemnized at the Astor residence, November 18, next, at 3:30 o'clock. Society circles are dihCU6sing the ceremony with great interest. The ABtors only returned to the city a few days ago. Mrs. Astor wa^ visited at her residence yesterday and a9ked for euoh information as she cared to make public in connection with the approaching wedding of her daughter. In reply she said she always cheerfully gave information to the prese, in order that no mistake should be made. Durincthe recent trip to France, Mrs. Astor said, the troasseau of Miss Astor was selected ''Out," the lady remarked smilingly, "it is so extensive that I am not capable ot describing it. There area lars number of ball and walking drosses made by Worth, Rodriques and Mme. Doucet. The wedding costume, by Worth, is ol white satin with floral designs, with a veil of point lace—my gift to my daughter. The bride will wear a wreath of orange blossoms and her ornacoen's will be pearls and diamonds. Ihe bridesmaids, who will wear white satin with tulle veils and white ostrich tips, will be Miss Steward, Mi9s Wilson, Miss Pecksher, Miss Swan, Miss Beckwith, Miss Willis and Miss Bobbins."

The bridegroom is Mr. Owen Wilson and the bride Miss Caroline Astor, daughter of Mrs. William Astor of Fifth avenue. The wedding will be solemnized by Itev. Dr. Dix, assisted by Dr. Potter, in the private gallery of the Astor mansion.

A REPUBLICAN RASCAL

Caught Trying to Colonize Voters in New York City.

NEW YORK, Oct. 30.—Col. Jco. J. Freeman, founder o! the Colored Republican Association, was arrested to-daj by order of the district attorney on a charge of violating the election laws, The district attorney claims he has reoeived information of oolonization being carried on in the Ninth Assembly District. Two colored detectives were put on the case and after a shoit lime found the work of colonization being carried on by Freeman and hence his arrest. Freeman endeavored to get the detectives to register as living in the district. Attempting to induce men to register illegally is a felony under the present election laws.

Joseph Sands, (coiored) Henry Soloman, George Oestreicher and John Stephens were also arrested on the same charge. Indictments having been found against them by the grand jury. Freeman was at one time attached to the district attorneys office and was later employed in the surrogate's office.

Women's Advancement.

BALTIMORE Oct. 30.—The association for the advancement of women continued its session to-day. This morning there was a secret session from which the public generally, reporters particularly, were excluded, during this session reports were read from the vice presidents from varii us states, territories and Canada. Ttie reports of the old body^ answers a number of questions, the obj'ect of which was to determine approaiuptely the property statues of women and an estimate ot the comparitive value of the services of husbands and wifes. Resolutions of respect were passed to the memory of Miss Newell Doggett, of Chicago, several years president ot the association.

Fears of Flood.

NEW ORLEANS, La., October 29.—The prevailing eastern winds have backed up the waters of Lake Pontchartrain in the rear of the city, so that the lake is overflowing its banks and the marshes surrounding it. The canals are high, and the shell roads to the West End and Spanish Fort are der water. Fears r.re enteitaint dot a northwestern wind, as the levees on the back canals are weak, and a stiong wind would be apt to bring about an inundation of the rear of the city, such as occurred several years ago, and which would cause great loss and suffering.

Antiquities for Boston.

LONDON, Oct. W.—At the meeting the subscribers of Eygptian exploration lund, the secretary made grateful allusions to ^ntributions received from America through Bev. Mr. Wilson, Boston. A resolution was adopted presenting collection of antiquities to the museum at Boston. Jas. Kussell Lowell accepted the collection in behalf of the museum.

WATEKFORD, N. Y., October 28.—The wile of George McCresry, of the Hudson river knitting mills, presented him with four children at a birth on Sunday. They are all girls acd weigh seven pounds apiece.

AUTAAVA, Oct. 30.—The senate ot Mexico ratified the agreement between Great Britan and Mexico, and steps will be at once taken to increase and develope Canadian trade with Mexico now thai amity has been established.

Ocean Mails.

LONDON, Oct. 31.—Mr.G. W. Smalley, London correspondent, writes to the Times sharply complaining O'" the system of British mails to America. He urges that the mails should be given to the fastest steamers by way of Queenstown and Southampton.

OIL WELL.

The Greatest Well Ever Bored. BRADFORD, Penn., October 89.—The Armstrong well, in Butler ccunty, was reported early this evening as flowing at the rate of 3,000 barrels per day- It wae gauged at 5 o'clock, and actually-produc-ed 336 barrels in sixty minutes. Tonight it produced 874 barrels in an hour, and some oil was lo9t. The oil flowed twenty feet above the fop of the derrick It is believed that the first day's production of the well will exceed 8,000 barrels, far outstripping the famous Christie and Phillips well?, which produced respectively 6,030 and 5,000 barrels pvc day. The new strike created, the greatest consternation in oil circles to. night. Friday the best scouts in the field reported it a dry hole, and the trade believed it to be such. It was thirty-flve feet in the s^nd, which is believed to be only torty feet thick. The trade is very much depressed over the outlook.

A REPUBLICAN RUFFIAN.

Wanting to Kill Some 0—d Bemocrats. Vincennes, lod., Oct. 30.—Lincoln Keith who was shot in the head by Dick Adkiuson at Edwardsport ihis County last night has since died. Adkinson rushed cut of a saloon greatly excited and said he was going to kill "some d—d Democrats," as a Democratic rally was being held there, and shot in a crowd of standeis with the above result. Adkinson was arrested. Keith is of excel lent family all of whom are Republicons. Feeling is intense and it is feared a mob may visit the jail to lynch the prisoner.

A College Rebellion.

HALIFAX, Oct. 30.—The students attending Kings College, Windsor, have rebelled anc demand the dismissal of President Dart and Piofessors Deforminton and Butler. The original cause of trouble is said to be that Canon Dart treats them oontinuaily with conte&pt. i'te students burnt him in effigy on the college grounds Monday night. College lectures have been suspended and the students are strolling idly about the town in knots of twos and threes.

Signs of Wonderful Prosperity. BLOOMINGTOH, 111., Oct. 29.—Heavy judgments were taken by oonfession last eveninsr against the hardware house of Harwood Bros. & Co., and the sherifl took possession- The liabilities are about $100,000 assets, $56,000 to $60,000. The members of tne tirm are D. B. Harwood, Daniel Harwood and Horace S. McCurdy.

A Red Hot Lover.

UNION, N. H., Oct 30.—Tuesday evening Horace Leland, of Brookfi rid, aged 18 years, chained himself to a brush heap near his father's house, then set the bush on fire and deliberately burned himself to death. His body was diecoved this morning. A gash was found on the side ol his throat made by a razor, which was found near by. A note was tound directed to his" parents saying he was tired of living. He gave no reason for the act, but it is thought to have been caused by unrequited love.

An Old Settler.

Mr. Thomas B. Carr, of M. Josephs' clothing store, is perhaps, the oldest inhabitant of this county. Mr. Carr came here with bis parents in 1815, and lived near Prairieton. Afterward he moved to Terre Haute and has remained here every sinct1. He has resided in county for 69 ears.

Death of Nathaniel Lee-

Yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock tbaniel Lee died at his residence, Farm, near Lockport. Judge Lee, as he was belter knoivn, was 77 years old and ditd of old ace. The deceased will be buried to-morrow morning at 10 o'clock, at Oak Hill cemetery.

BLAINE IN BROOKLYN.

A Busy Day For J. 6.

Blaine had a busy time of it yesterday afternoon and evening. From 4 o'clock to 5:30 he attended a reception tendered him in the Academy ot Music by the ladies of Br oklyn and made a speech. In the evening at the sime place be made another speech to a large audience. Still later in the eveninc he went to the Grand Opera House making another speech and wound up the day's labors late at night with a speech at Williamsburg!). It was a rail day and evening, but while this made his work disagreeable it did not interfere with it In any appreciable way.

Presbyterian Prohibitionists. CINCINNATI, Oct. 31 .—The synod of the Ohio Prtsbytenan ohurch, now in session here, adopted the report of the standing conimiUee on the observance of Sabbath and temperance, iu which the fol.owing resolution occurs: "That the increased desecration of the Sabbath ca!ls tor prayer and for a united and vigorous effort on the part of all good and law-abiding citizens to securc the faithful observance of the sacred day, the great end to be attained being the sacredness of the Sabbath and the entire prohibition of the manufacture and ^s dc ot intoxica'ing drinks as a beverage
