OBITUARY.
From Thursday's Daily. JAMBS A THOMPSON.
This morning at 4 o'clock James A. Thompson died at his residence, No. 115 south First street, from consumption. His death has been expected hourly for Ihe past lew days and though it wili occasion no surprise it will cause much pain to his many fiiends. The deceased was a well-known young man and was in the 27th year of his age. He was exemplary in his habits, retiring and modest :n his disposition, and anybody who ever knew him could not but like him. He was at one time connected with the police lorce otj tbis city and made an excellent and trusted officer. For the last year or so he engaged in business and was doing well, but the dreadful malady which carried him off fastened itself upon him and made a wreck of what was once a vigorous constitution. The time of his faneral will be announced hereafter.
Fish Bros' Wagon Works. From Friday's Daily.
The meeting of stockholders to elect officers and decide on location for the Fish Bros' Wagon Works will take place to morrow night at Mr. Collett's office. No definite pfoposals of land have been made except irom Mr. Mercer and ^President Mackey. It is stated that parties south of town are holding back an offer until the stockholders meet. Mr. Van Wyck has been written to for his price on a strip about a halt mile south of Mercer's and a little less than a quarter ot a mile above the Keyes' manufacturing company.
THE farmers have commenced preparing for the coming season's work, and, but for the wet weather, there would have been a vast amount of plowing done this week.
THE BOARD OF TRADE.
The formal opening of the Board of Trade marks an epoch in the history of Terre Haute. New blood has been infixed into the arteries of traffic new life and energy have filled the thews ami sinews. Proud of her past the ambitious city looks hopefully to a prosperous future.
The Board of Trade and the business which made its establishment a necessity at this time, is proof of present activity as well as an earnest of what is to come, in the shaping and helping oi which future to a realization of what is most desirable it is confidently expected this organization of the business men will be a most efficient instrumentality.
Fully equipped, with committees composed of energetic men to look after each ot the many interests that go to make up the multiform business life of an active and growing city, a remedy can soon be found for any difficulty that may arise. Or if no remedy can be found it will at least lie known that piompt and intelligent effort has been made to that end. And in the .matter of presenting the advantages of the city to new enterprises seeking location, assurance can be had than the just claims of Terre Hante have been properly and persistently presented. This is something that has heretofore for the most part been accomplished in a desultory and uncertain way, now well done and now ill and again not at til.
But the largest part ot its usefulness will perhtps be In its facilitating business intercourse among ourselves. It will be a sort of exchange, a common meeting ground, a place wherd business ot various kinds can be transacted with dispateh.

ACCIDENT ON THE RAIL
The Chicago Limited Express Wrecked. PITTSBURG, March 20.—The Chicago limited express coming east ran into a landslide near Columbiana, Ohio, this morning at 4 o'clock and was wrecked. No particulars of the accident have been received here yet, but as a special train with physicians left for tho scene it is believed a number of persons have been injured.
A later report says Engineer Richards and the fireman, name unknown, were killed instantly and all the passengers more or less injured, but none killed.
PHILADELPHIA, March 20.—At the office of the Pennsylvania railroad company nothing has been heard up to 1 o'clook regarding the accident on the limited express at Columbiana beyond what the Associated Press has from Pittsburg. The wires between Pittsburg and Columbiana are in trouble, but the officials are making every eflort to get a working wire from here to that
{ist
oint.
They are also arranging for of the injured. LATER.—The company learned that the train ran into a landslide near Salem, sixty-seven miles west of Pittsburg. Recent rains had loosened the earth and it fell upon the track. The engine and train were derailed. Engiuder James Richards and Fireman C. Rhoads were instantly killed. Eight passengers were slightly cut and bruised but none ot the injuries are serious. No bones reported broken. The brakeman and baggagemaster were also slightly injured. Wreck trains were promptly sent to the Bcene of the accident, the passengers transferred and will reach Pittsburg about five hours late. It is reported all the injured passengers will be able to go through to their destination. This is the first serious accident that has happened to the New York & Chicago limited express since it commenced running, nearly three years ago.
ANOTHER ACCOUNT.
Another aooount says the train which consisted of an engine, three passenger ooaehes. baggage and mail car and sleeper. Upon reaching Franklin hill the engine left the track plunging down the embankment twenty feet below. Thaitaggage car and smoker followed andTOere badly wrecked. To add to the horror almost before the passengers could realize what had happened the boiler of the engine burst with a report that was beard for miles. The baggage car lying near the engine was blown to pieces and the dead and manarled bodies of the engineer and fireman were found 400 yards away. In addition to the injured given already, the colored porter of Pullman's sleeper was seriously injured. As yet no definite cause can be given for the acoident, but the opinion is expressed that an obstruction was maliciously placed on the track in such a way as to be unnoticed by the engineer in time to avert the accident.
Another Accident.
TECTONIA, O., March 20.—Locomotive 308, drawing the through express, due here at 4 o'clock this morning, exploded four miles west of here. Engineer James Richards, and fireman Charles Raodes were killed. Three Pulman sleepers and one baggage car was derailed. The following passengers were wounded: J. H. McKnight, of Ft. Snaw, Montana, scalp wound J. B. Vicks, N. Y., hand outi Win. Fnller, Chicago, nose and face out H. J. Douglass, Ft. Yates, Dak., scalp wound, and several others. The track was torn up for 200 feet.
Court House Bonds.
The board of county commissioners, previous to adjournment yesterday, placed upon record an order prepared by County Attorney McNutt in regard to the issuance of bonds for the new court house. The board orders the issuance ot $260,000 in bonds of the denomination of $5,000 each at the rate of five per ceat interest, payable annually.
