Leavitt has sold his fine farm south of Lockport to Matthew S. Sector, of this township. We did noli learn the price, but presume it was somewhere near $75 per acre James Allen from Sullivan county, is visiting bis cousin, Wiley J. Allen, of this place So far we have heard of but two candid dates for trustee on the Republican ticket. It would not surprise us much if the Republicans nominated the present incumbent, threby endorsing his administration which would be nothing more than justice to a man who has fulfilled the duties of the office in a mannor that few can condemn. Tbe Sommersett Coal Company have reduced their mining iorce to ten men for the summer. Your correspondent was in error last week in reporting the death of the little child of Quince Forster,
It was thought. to b6 dead on Tuesday evening, and preparations were made for dressing and fixing it tor its last resting place, when it revived and lived until Thursday evening at 4 o'clock, when it breathed its last. It waa buried on Saturday at Oak Hill Cemetery. It is interesting to your correspondent to hear Dr. Hickaon tell oi the marches, skirmishes, battles, etc., through which the regiment to which he belonged passed during the Mexican war. Although a lapse of almost forty years, the incidents seem to be as iresb in his mind as though only occurring yesterday. Fred Hager has rented a portion oi James M. Sankey's farm and will move some time next week. B. F. Weible, who has lived on the Church iarm in this township for the past year, Will move to the Jcnckes larm, three miles south of Terre Haute next month. Polk Price, who was born and
raised in this township, died at his home in Edgar county, Ills., last week. He was brought here and buried in the Minor grave yard. He was an honest, upright and industrious citizen, and beloved and respected and by all who knew him. It seems that one of our city belles, at least, is determined to take advantage of Leap year. For further particulars ask some one who was at the hotel last Saturday night. It has been reported that Wm. M. Crossley haa changed his political faith and beoome a Republican. In an interview with him he said if that was the first malicious falsehood that bad ever been circulated on him, he might get out of humor, but he is used to being slandered and knows that the hum of a musquito ean not hurt an elephant. The Riley cornet band gave Ed R. Wythe a serenade on Saturday nisht. A jolly good time was had.
