It is not known whether Wallace took any ot the money away withhiiutor wbetuer bis peculations have been long continued, and in small amounts probably the latter is true. He left Hopkinsville by a so~otb-bound train, aad it is learned that at Guthrie he took tbe L. ft N. to Memphis. He is supposed to be making his way to Texaa or Mexico. His crime has caused a tremendous sensation. Before leaving tbe bank on Monday night be adjusted (he time lock to open -jnst prior to the hour the train left. TREASURE TROVE.
Hunting fer the Hiiaear'e Baried Boety. WASHIMGTON, D. C. Jan. 3.—The solicitor of the treasury was notified to-day, that there would be submitted to him certain legal questions which had re oeatly ariseu in connection with the work of recoveriog the treasure supposed lying in the wreck of the British frigate Hussar, at the bottom at East River, New York, just below Fort Morrison.
The Hussar waa wrecked in 1180, while on her way to Norwich, Conn. She is supposed to have on board nearly £1.000,000, iutended lor the payment of British troops also seventy American prisoners, chained to the gun deck.
Attempts have been made at intervals for many years to re-over the treasure which it is believed went down with her, but on account ot' the great depth of the water and ewiftnes* of the tide in the channel where tbe wreck lies, all such attempts have hitherto been fruiJess. Tb« company now engaged in the' work undertook it at thek o#n xpeafm and risk, upon an agreement with tbe United SUtes government thai they should have ninety per cent, of ail money recovered, and the United States have the other ten per cent, together with all relics of value that might be found. From tbe fact that a legal question has arieon concerning tbe sunken treasure, and it is to be submitted to the law officer of tbe treasury, tbe inference is drawn of abetter prospect than ever before for the recovery of the money, but nothing is known definitely about it or •bout the nature of the question raised.
