Wonderful Cure of a Lad 12 Tears Oid, Who For 8 Years, From the Top of His Head to His Ankles, Was One Mass of Scabs.
Abj/'CT
My son, a lad twelve rears of age, wu affllcted with the worst form of Eczema for a penou of eight years. 80 virulent was it tiuit Jr.jin tne lop of 14s head to within a few fucker of his aukles he was one mass of •o&bs, which refused to yield to any treatment that was attempted.
Every remedy tnat was suggested by -friend4 or physicians was tried .in vain Ailopa nr, homoeopathy, herbs, roots, saltwater batus, flaxseed poultices, soaps, ointments, and in shsrt everything that eoald be done to eradicate tne disorder seemed only to aggravate it, and the child's life became a harden to him, and the expense of the various experiments was a constant drain upon our ie»ouices.
My wife, reading the advertisement of the Cuticuru Remedies in one of the daily papers, resolved to make one more attempt ut a care. [The disease was now encroaching «pon I1.6 face, and seemed incurable.) I gave reluctant consent 10 the proposal, and an lutei view was nought with a famous lady phynicianof New York, who made a most thorough examination of the case, and pntuse 1 a cure without the least hesitation by the use of vour Cuticura Remedies. In one week there was a marked change the raw and angry sores began to grow i»ale and along the outer ed«es sealed off, and as time wore on they began to disappear entirely, until at the present writing the only vestige is one small spot uien the forearm, scarcely visible and tost disaope&riog.
Thus after eight years of expense and anxiety, we have tne intense satisfaction of see tag the child's ?kin as fair and smooth as it was before this dreadful cutaneous disorder at him. sincerely yours,

"Exactly. You're right. It is a mercy that there's a dosen pounds left of me. But Che greatest mercy of ail is that before 1 actaally coughed myself out of existence I «ot hold of Parker's Ginger tonic, and a few bottles of it cured me. In this positive strain writes Mr. Abraham Orner, of High, apire. Dauphin county, Pa. The tonic will render you the same service. It is not a mere essence of ginger, but an original .oompound of powerful curatives. It stlmlatee, warms, soothes and tones up the wtem.

His father-in-law gave him plenty of hard work, entrusting him with important cases and much responsibility, for he was ^determined that the young man should rise in his profession and become a power in the poli'ics of the nation.
The energy and ability of the youne lawyer fully justified his hopes and plans tor he soon became prominent among the members of the bar, amassing a considerable fortune, bringing jov and gladness into his father's household by lilting the mortgages Iromthe farm, and relieving bim from various financial embarrassments.
In 1842, Gov. Porter appointed him Presiding Judge of the judicial distric1 where he was best known, which office he held for nine years.
In 1811 he was elected to the Supreme Bench, aBd was made Chief Justice, to which office he was re-elected in 1854, and in which he remained until called to the cabinet of BuchanaD, as legal adviser.
In 1860, he became Secretary of State. On his retirement from the Cabinet office, he was appointed reporter of the U. S. Supreme Court, but his rapidly increasing business compelled him to resign, after issuitg two volumes of reports. In 1873 he was elected a member of the Penn. Constitutional Convention, where he refused remuneration, as he always did, when national interests were concerned. He was always a consistent Democrat.
As an eseayist, Judge Black was particularly celebrated. His logic was di rect and convincing, his fetyle graceful and pleasing, and the subject matter always worthy of careful attention. •He was a religious |man, and bis life was the very embodiment of sturdy, muscular Christianity.
The controversy which appeared in the North American Review, with Kobt. Ingersoll on the subject of atheism was a memorable one.
The Bible, Shakespeare, Milton, Horace and Virgil were ever at his command for apt and appropriate quotations. His career throughout is one well worthy ot emulation.

The Lightning's Work.
The storm of last night was a refreshing one In many ways, cooling the torrid atmosphere and bringing fresh life to the parched earth. It was worth thousands of dollars to the farmers in its im. provement of the corn crop, it was accompanied by vivid flashes of lightning and the thunder roared and rolled like a good fellow. One fla«h brighter than its tellows and one crash louder and olearer than the others will be remembered by those who were awakened in the night by the storm, ft was thought to have struck somewhere here in town and it did. The bolt struck the house of the widow Mills, at 506 north Eighth street. It struck the gable end of the roof, knooking the shingles off of a large section of the roof. Descending to the room below it knocked thfe plastering from the wall and smashed a large mirror. Making its wav out through the wall it descended to the ground by the roots of a tree. It gave the family a shock and woke them up in a hurry, but did no injury to any person 01 to auytbing other thas has been detailed.
A heavy wind passed in the vicinity of Lockport Tuesday afternoon and blew down a barn belonging to a gentleman whose name could not be learned. The horses were gotten out irom under the ruins and proved not to have been inlured. But it was a narrow escape.
THE Gobin Bros., who have a saw mill near Middletown, are intending to move it up several miles northwest of its present site, into the river bottoms where there is a lot of fine timber to be sawed. Athol & J. C. Paddock are making efforts to have it brought into their neigborhood. Svv/: «»aV
Struck by Lightning.
Another loss from the storm night before last is reported in addition of the list given in last nights' GAZETTE A pair of horses belonging to Eliza French were struck by lightning and killed on his fam near Hartford.

To-Morrow a Long Way Off When .v^ Help is Wanted To-day. a
Comfort is never In a hurry. Pain and distress are in hot haste. It is to the "friead in need"—the friend who does something now—that the eld adage pays the oompliment of being "a friend indeed." That they do not keep the sufferer in suspense la the salient excellence of BENSON'S CAPCLNE POROUS PLASTERS. The plasters of other days—whether porons or otherwise-said—-'wait until to-morrow: We can promise nothing on the spur of the moment." But pain unrelieved, like hepe deferred, maketh the heart sick. Benson's plasters act on application, Thev permeate, soothe, warm and heal, containing, as they do, chemical and medicinal agents of the highest eMciency.
