PECK'S BAD BOY.
He and his Uncle Ezra Have Some fun.
From Peck's Sun.
"1 hear'your Uncle Ezra is here on a visit," said the grocery man to the bad boy. "I suppose you have been having a high old time. There is nothing that does a boy more good than to have a nice visit with a good uncle, ana hear him tell about old times when he and the boy's father were boys together. •'Well, I don't know about it," said the boy, as ne took a stick of macaroni and begaa to blow paper wads through it at a wootuawj ei- who was tiling a saw outside the door. "When a boy who has been tmigti a is got his pins ail set to reform, uon't think it does him any good tj have a re.ii uice uncle come to the uouse visiting. Anyway, that's my experience. I have backslid the worst way, and it is going to take lie a mouth, utter Uncle Ezra goes away, to climb up to tie grace mat have faileu from. It is Jarn discouraging,"'said the boy as he looked up at tue ceiling in an innocent sort ui a way. and uiti the macaroni uudel his coat, when the wo^dsawyer. wno uaci been bit iu the ueck, dropped nissaw uud trot up ma'd. -Wuat's the trouble? Your uncle has tbe itputaiiou wdere he lives of ^eing one o: tue pillars of society. But you
tell about these fellowswhyu they n.t away from home. Does he drinkf" "No, ne don't drink, out as near as 1 uiiii tigure it he and pa were about the worst pills iu the box wheu they were young. I dou't want you to repeat it, but wnen pa and ma were married they eloped. 1 es, sir, actually rau awav, auc de-tied their pareuts, aud they had to hide abQUt a week for fear ma's father would till pa so tull of cold lead that he would sink if he fell in the water. Pa nas been kicked over the fence, aud chased down alleys dozens of times, by ma's graudfaAher*wbeu he was sparkimr ma, autt ma wafe a terror too, cause her mother couldu't.flo auyihiug with her, though elm is awt'til precise now, aud wants everybody to be good. Why, ma's mother used to warin ner ears, aud shake tbe daylights out ot her, but it didu't do any good. She was mashed on pa, and there was no cure for her except to have pa prescribed tor her as a husband, and they rau away. Uncle Ezra told me all about it Ma naiut got any patience witn gills

days that have minds cl their own about fellows, aud she thinks tneir parents ought to have all the say. Well, maybe she thinks she knows all about it. But wbeu people get iu love it is the same now as it was whf pa and ma were trying to keep out of the reach of my grandfather's snot guu. But pa and Uncle
thjjj'Ezra and ma'are good friends, and they
hav_ a h,
talk over old times and have a big laugh. I guess Uncle Ezra was too much for pa in joking when they were boys, oause pa torn me that all rules against joking were suspeudod while Uncle Ezra was hehe, aud tor me to play anything on him I could. I told pa I was trying to lead a different life, but he said what I warned to do was to make uncle Ezra thin of old times, and tne only way was to keep him on the ragged edge. I thought if there was anything I could do to make it pleasant for mv uncle, it was my duty to do it, so 1 fixed the bed slats on the spare bed so they would fall down at 2 A. M. tbe lirst uisfbt, and theu I retired. At two o'clock 1 heard the aufules' noise in the spare room, and a howling aud screaming, auu 1 went down and met uncle Ezr# iu the hall, and he asked me what was the matter in there, and I asked him if be didu't sleep in the spare room, and he said no, thatpa and ma wa^ in there, and be slept in their room. Then we went iu the spare room, and you'd a dide to see pa. Ma bad jumped out wbeii the slnts fir6t fell, aud was putting her niir up in curl papers when we got im ui pa wa9 all tangled up in tne spring .id things His head hadgone down ... t, and the mattrass and quilts rolled over on uim, and he was almost »moiht-red, aud we had to take the bedtoau down to get him out, the way you havti to unharness a horse wbeu he runs artiiv and falls down, before you can ge: tiim 'up Pa was mad, but "ulcle Ezra 1 tughed at him, and told him he was only foundered, and all he wanted was a bran mash and some horse liniment aud he would come out all right. Uncle Ezra went out in the hall to get a pale of water to throw on pa, 'cause he said pa was a tire, when pa asked u.e why ia blazes I didn't fix the other bed slats, and 1 told him I didn't know a9 they were going to change beds, and then pa said don't let it occur again. Pa lays everything to me. He is the most changeable man I ever saw. He old me to do everything uncle Ezra wanted me to do, and then, when 1 helped uncle Ezra to play a joke on pa, he was mad. Say, I don't tnink this world is rut. right, do you? I haver'tgot much Mme to talk to you to-day, cause uncle Ezra and me are going fishine. but don't it strike ycu that it is queer that parents trouuee hoys for doing just what they did tuemseives. Now, have got a friend' whose father is a lawyer. That lawver would warm his boy it he should tell a lie, or as:ociae with "auybodv thai was had, aud yet the lawyer wiii defend am iu he knows is guilty of stealiug, and get bim clear aud take tbe money be got from the thief, who stole it, to buy the same bay anew coat to wear to cuurcn, and he will defend a man .woo committed murder, and make an argument to the jury that will bring tears to their eyes, and thev will clear the murderer. Queer ain't it? And say, how is it thai we send missionaries to Burmah, to convert them from ue»themsm. aud the same vessel that ikes the mUsonary there carries from liort a cargo of tin gods to sell to tae uethen? Why woulc n't it be better to send the unsionaries to Boston? 1 think the more a boy learos the more he gels mixed." 'Well, how's your thea-
Have any of the great actors supported you lately?" said the grocery man, to change the euhjeot.
No, we are all off on vacation. Booth and Barrett, and lots of the stars, are gone to Europe, and the rest work down to less high-toned places. Some of tbe theater girls are waitiBg at summer resorts, and lots are Tlsiting on farms, tell you it makes a difference whether the relatives are visiting yeu or yon are visiting them. Aotors and actresses feel awfUU when an old granger comes to the town where the are playing, and wants to see them. They are ashamed ot his homespun clothes, and oowhide boots, and they

where, or in the basement of the theater so tbe other actors will not laugh at their rough relatives, but when the season is over, an aqtor who can remember a relative out on a farm is ticseled to death, and the granger is all right ecough there, and tbe actor does npt think of the roueb, nutmeg grater hands, and tbe blisterd nose, as long as tbe (ranger relative will put up fried pork, and things, and "support" tae actor My uncle Ezra is pretty rough, and it makes me tired somes times when 1 am down in town with him to have him go into a store where there are girl cle rks ana ask what things are for, that I know be don't want, and make the girls blu sb, but he is a good hearted old man, and he and me are going to make a mint of ufbney during vaoation. He lives near a summer resort hotel, and nas a stream that is tull of minnows, and we are goin gto catch minnows and sell them to thedu des for fish bait. He ears some of tbe fools will pay ten cents a piece foe minnows/so if we sell a million minnews, we make a fortune. I am coming back in September and will buy out your grocery Say, Ut me have & pound of raisins, and I'll pay you when I sell mv uncle's minnows." ZTZ

HUMOR IN THE STOMACH. Much of the distress and sickness at tributcd to dyspepsia, cbrouio diarrhoea and other causes is occasioned by humor ia the stomach. Several cases, with .all the characteristics of these complaints, have been cured by Hood's Sarsararilla. Other cures effected by this medicine are so wondetful thai the simplest statement of them affords the bt sf proof that it mbines rare curative agents and when rnce used secures the confidence of the people.

have* suffered with asthma for over forty years, and had a terrible attack in December *nd January, 1882. I hardly know what prompted me to take Parker's Tonic I did so, and tbe first day I took four doses. The effect astonished me. Xliat night I slept as if nothing was the matter with me, a-id have ever .ince. 1 have bad colds since, but no asthma. My breathing is now as if I had tever known that disease. If you know of auvone who has asthma tsll him in my name that Parker's Tonic will cure it-j-evcu af'er forty years There was a man who escaped the fate of those whom the poet laments.
This preparation, which has heretofore been known as Parker's Ginger Tonic, will hereafter be advertised and sold under the name of Parker'ifTouic. Inasmuch as ginger is really an unimrortant ingredient, and unpftneipled dealers are constautly deceiving their customers by substituting inferior preparations under the flame of ginger, we drop ibe. misleading word,
There is no change, however, in the preparation itself, and all bottles remaining in the bands of dealers, wrapped under the name ot Parker's Gincer Touic contain the genuine medicine it the fac simile signature of Hiscox & Co. is at the bottom ol ihe outside wrapper.
When a young mau says his girl is "worth her weight in gold" he is not putting a very high valuation upon her unless she is a very heavy gitl. At this rating 120 pounds of giri would be worth about $30,006, and any young man who doesn't thing his best girl worth more than $30,000 ought to be kicked clear over the front gate ty an infuriated parent and have the dog set after bim.
