MiLwtfrKEir* Wis!, April 20 —The Maggie Hennecke mystery was solved this morning by the discovery of her boiy in the river near Jones Island, only, a short distance from where her hat was. found a few days after her disappearance The body was first seen by Capt. Williams, of. the tug boat, and. wben discovered was near the middle ot the river floating on the surface. It was towed to thesbore aud tbe authorities notified. On the arrival ot tbe wagon at the station Supt. "Whitehead and Chief ^Jfason viewed the remains and they were without trouble identified as those of Maggie.

Tbe gold necklace was in its place. The little nut Basket suspended at her neck was still there and tbe gold baoid ring with the initials lM. H" engravefd on it. The body was swollen by the water and tbe features were almost unrecognizable. The eyes were wide op^n and protruded, giving her face a borribje expression. At tbe morgue the remains were placed on a marble slab and undtr instructions ot the officers ot the humane society were prepared for burial. Thty will probably be removed to the home of Mr. Hennecke on Hanaven street this afternoon. The mother was also immediatley notified of the discovery of her child. Mr. Henneoke unfortunately left for White Water, this state, at 7 A. M. and theldiscovery was made at 7:30.

Maggie Hennecke disappeared October 24th, 1883. The theory is that ber body was caught by a projecting pile ol wbari and held down.-

Maggie was about 12 yeats of age. Opinions are divided between tbe theory or suicide and accidental drowning. FIGHT BETWEEN TRAMPS AND POLIOS.

ft-

A meeting of between twenty and thirty business men, owners of ptopety and doing business in the West part of the city, was held last evening in the Council Chamber, ft was a private meeting, but, in.view of a misieport, it is proper to say that the meeting, which had reference to a site .for tbe government build* ing.was not held in the interest of any particular lot. Those in attendance were there in behalf of any location which would be central to the business part of, the town, and the. sense of the meeting, as developed in an interchange of opinions, was that the building, in view oi tbe business interest and convenience ot business men, and in order that the whole body of our people|might be equally bene* fited as near as possible, should be located not further East than tbe alley dividing Sixth and Seventh streets, running North and South. But no locality, either North or South oi Main street was designated, recommended or spoken of, and it was well understood that if the Commission located the building North or South of Main street, on ady ol the sites publicly spoken of, West of tbe line mentioned, it would be tbe most advantogeous to. the whole city, and the busines interests therot. This and nothing more was the tenor of the talk, and the committee appointed to consider the matter are fully agreed on the matter.

A Frost Last Night.

There tvas a sharp frost last nig. Most of the gardnerers and florists, feeling its approach, prepared for it by covering exposed plants and in this way avoidea all damage. A curious fact was noticed by Wm."t5Cholz. the gardcer south of the city, that it seemed to get colder after the rising of the sun and the glass covering of hot beds, cle^r at sunrise, shortly thereafter became cooled with frost. RUTLEDGE'S RI6HT.

To Kill George Volner Asserted By the Jastlc of the Peace Before Whom He was Tried. 1

Justice Noel, of Rockville, before whom tbe preliminary hearing of Chas. Butledg* for the killing of George Volner, was heard, yesterday evening discharged tbe prisoner from custody on tbe ground that be was justified in doing what he did. Sentiment is 'divided as to whether tbe decision of tbe Justice right. Rut edge's trends are jubilant at "bis release, and the friends of tbe deceased are correspondingly exasperated The defense of the prisoner was conducted in a very able manner by James T. Johnston & 8. D. Puett. Rutledge's wife was greatly overjoyed at tbe finding and wept when the announcement was made. If the decision of the Justice is not satisfactory, Rutledge can be indicted by tbe grand jury and brought to trial again, as tbe decision in a preliminary bearing of this sort does not at a'l bar a subsequent prosecution. ...
