In the heat of a summer Sunday noon Fresh with the healthy breath of Juue

That waved the canes in the marshy fens That flanked thy saad redout, Vlncennes,

Cooled by the shade of a spreading elm With pipe in hand sat Captain Helm. Jr^

For old Jo Helm and his squad of one'#! That day were Vincennes garrison!

A musket and a sand-scoured spade

As if, like Captain Helm, they knew 'Twas noon of a summer Sunday, too. -wr*Sj High over his head a dirty roll

"But, hark thee comrade! thy meal soon

I pray thee take thy accordeon,

"••And piny me thy bravest marches yet ••That my logs their stiffness may forget."

•'And draw not the bellows out so farl "As to have no wind at the ilrst of a bar."

A twinkle gleamed in Old Joe's eye As it peeped from its wrinkled corner sly.

The accordeon bellow? did puff and blow High over the Wabash's rippled flow.

Up the river but half a mile, "Were forming inbattlerank and file.

As thoy sprang from wide batteaux and barge A thousand soldiers of English George.

And Governor Hamilton raised his hand •'Hark! these rebels must have a band."

"Of martial music! That speaks, egad! "Of a mightier, force than 1 deemed they bad."

quantity shall be in a square form as near as practicable, at the most northwesterly corner of the tract, and when less than the whole of any in-lot or out-lot in any city or town shall be sold the part sold shall extend from the main or principal street, road or alley forming the most convenient front to such lot, to the rear of such lot, and so as to bound the same by lines as nearly parallel with the outlines of such lot as practicable.

When more than oae tract or lot belonging to the same person shall be for sale at the same time, in the same municipal corporation or township, apart of one of said tracts or lots shall be offered, first for the payment of the whole sum due from such owner on all such dtlinquent lands or lrts or otherwise and if no person shall bid off a part of such tract or lot lor the sum required, the Eaid tract or lot shall then be offered to the highest bidder for cash, and if aoy amount shall remain yet due, or if no person bid tor apart or all of one tract or lot, each of the other tracts or lot9 shall be offered in like manner until the required sum is realized and if no one bids upon a part or all of said tract or lots separately enough to pav the amount due, then the whole of 6aid tracts tr lots shall be offered together and sold to pay the taxes, penalty, interest and costs thereon.
