T11E FOREST ROBBERS.
The cities on our rivers' banks,1 The towns and villages, j-For wondrous gifts of God give thanks,
Anil prosper at their ease.
From north to south the rivers flow, And flow from east to west, And wealth that makes the cities grow
Each bears upon his breast.
MA'
On Iouds that lumbermen lay bare, Stripped of their forest trees, The suow falls thickly everywhere,
And drifts before the breeze.
Then shines the sun, then falls the rain, The snows begin to melt, And soon the forest robbers' gain
Through all the land is felt.
I
The rising river spreads dismay Along its crooked course, I And -weeps the fruit of toil a\^h'$*"
With its resistless force.
Through towns the turbid waters run, Through cities' streets they flow, While !"ar away still shines the snu,
Andswiitly melts the snow.
In towns and cities men despair, And own the Ghastening rod, And w'.- ile they work and weep, declare
It was the act of God. v.
But such disasters are not ill The great Creator's plan: They spring from human greed and sin,
From selfish acts of men.
When wealth is vanishing like dew. And toil and life are lost. Shall we support the ai emeu's crew
At such a fearful cost?
An Impossibility.
Deserving articles are always apprecia'. led. The exceptional cleanliness of Par. ker's Hair Balsam makes it popular (nay hairs are impossible with its oeca signal use.

Why Bob Burdette "Swore Off. "It may be news to you since you have invited me to "smile," said Mr. "Bob" Burdette, the humorist, to a Pittsburg Post reporter the other day, "that I have become a total abstainer, I reduced the matter to figures and found out that to each man is alloted one barrel ot whisky, and by close calculation I discovered that I had drunk a barrel and a half. In other words, I had drunk my own and half ot some other man's barrel. I am too honest to rob anybody, especially ot of the whisky we get nowadays, and therefore have* quit drinking whisky entirely.
