THE GRADE MYSTERY.

Th(6 Dog Theory Does Not Stick—A New Development.

Krom Thursday's Dally.

There is a laughable side to the finding of the pieces of skull and brains on the grade west of the city, but there may be a serious one also. There is Another development which vanishes the deg theory. Richard Mcllray, of Macks^ille, and several other men identify the black dog found in the water as being the dog they saw at least a week ago lying dead on the north side of the grade. The dead dog, to whom the parts of brains and skull and blood were alleged to belong, was found on the south side of the grade, it will

remembered. Persons who have

all along said there had been foul play point to this identification as another link of evidence to establish their theory. It seems almost impossible that the apparent evidences of a struggle noticed at the scene coula be made by or with the assistance of a dog. Some think the dog was thrown in the water for a purpose.

Arretted Last Hight for a Host Revolting Crime

TURNED L0032 THIS MORNING

Mollie Zaring is a notorious character. She came here from Illinois because she was compelled to leave the town in which she lived. She has for sometime past run a disreputable house in this city— first over Monninger's saloon, then over Pritchard's saloon, and now on Main street, between Eighth and Ninth. She is the mother of two bright little jiirls, aged twelve and eight respectively. These children she has kept in her deo, schooling them in

Ways that are dark And tricks that are vain.

The authorities made several feeble attempts to send the children away, but the mother fought them and kept them here. Last Sunday a brute named Hill, who gave his name as Johnson, enticed these infants into an act so revolting and disgusting as to render it not fit to be put on paper or spread before the eyes of our readers. '1 here were a number of witnesses to the inhuman spectacle, and Hill was arrested and locked up in jail, where he now is and where be ought to remain for some time. Mrs. ZariDg claimed that she knew nothing of the affaii, but this does not lessen her responsibility, for she didn't seem to care much when she did hear of it.

Last night it was reported to the police that Mollie Zaring assisted a man named Tom Ferguson to outrage a little girl living in the rear of her bagnio. She was arrested by Cain and Greggs. Tom Ferguson could not be found. This morning the woman was arraigned before Justice Steinmehl. A number of witnesses were present in court ready to testify against her. She hired an attorney and the arraignment, so far as it went, was a miserable fiasco. It would be thought that the gravity of the charge at least would be taken into consideration. The deputy prosecutor placidly consented to a proposal to tarn the woman loose ou her own recognizance and it was accordingly done. The case was set for trial Monday, but it is doubtful whether it will ever be tried. To add to the utter annihilation. of the authorities the woman took her children away from their charge and now has them in a place where they are certain to become in due time the most abandoned characters in Christendom.

AN INTERESTING FACT- VI In France, all patent medicines must be endorsed by an official board of physicians before they can be sold. In lieu of such a law in America, the people have resolved themselves into a national committee which has indorsed Swayne's Ointment for allayisgthe itching accompanying the Piles, as the only reliable remedy in the market.
