The Republicans in faror of coalition with the Reaajusters met in Convention in the Opera house at noon, Josiah Crump of Richmond, Temporary Chairman w)d P. Peel Brook. Secretary, both colored. After the customary speeches a Committee on Credentials was appointed and recess taken till afternoon. Upon re-as-sembling, the colored delegate from Alex andria rose and said he desired to state that he was sent by the Republicans of Alexandria as a delegate to the Republican Convention, hacl a ticket signed by the Chairman of the State Centril Committee, and was ruthlessly thrust from the doorot the Republican Convention by Democratic policemen. The Speaker then denounced the Democrats in vigorous terms. Captain E. W. Early, of Albemarle, moved that a committee be ap pointed to confer with a committee of the Straightout Convention.

Drs- Lewis opposed the motion on the ground that the Straight-outs were bolts..

W W. Douglass favored Mitchell of Alexandria. He believed the negroes of Virginia to-day would to better off had they never seen Jorgenten or Desendorf. But he was willing to swallow them both rather than hate a split in the Republican party.

P. J. Carter was in favor of the motion. The Convention voted a Committee OP Compromise almost unanimous. The Committee on Resignations were also appointed. A delegate favored an extension of time to the Coalitiouists.and said if they were refused to have further consultation with the Coalitionists they would elect Daniels.

George W. Arnold asked tho speaker why he prelerred Cameron to Daniels. The delegate replied that he understood Danield was a Fire-eater and Cameron a Liberal. It Got so Warmed up on the Way it was no Good-

Day before yesterday was a day that wn 1 mg berememoered for its weather. JS'ot because it was the hottest of the season though it was certainly hot enrugh— but tor the extraordinary fact that a hot. blasting and almost suffocating wind came down from the North whence we had been looking for a cool breete to allay the intense heat that has been parching us tor the last few weeks. In fact Vt-nnor had promised us a polar wave and he may claim that he has kept his promise, for the wave came from th£ direction of the pole but like Maebeth's witches, he has "kept the wotd of promise to our ears to break it to our hearts." But then it is liketv Vennor is not at tauli. ho had made arrangements for a poltr wave and really intended to cool u» oil uud give us a good night's sleep, but after he had started it down the fiery tiend of the torrid equatorial regions, who had been spending the summer iito-tii, rubbing his hands and chuckling over his inhumanly practical joke, said to self "I will go up into the Northland, and meet this polar wave and warm him up: in fact heat him red hot, so shall ihe people of this temperate zone think (hut hell has ourst a retort, and they shall curse Vennor and say "He is no good any more." And he did it. Just how he eflk ted the warming up is not certain, hut it is suspected he went over to the Libyan Desert and borrowed a section of a Sirocco and brought it over here, or he may have some patent infernal machine which he operotes on a lar^e scale and has located somewhere to the north of us. Whatever the process be it is certainly a good one at least we hope it is not to be further perfected for it would take forty million of Dr Blips' cooling apparatuses to counteract' its scorching influences.

Threshing Machine Burned. N. H. McFerrin yesterday sold a Nichols, Shepherd & Co. Vibrator Threshing Muchine to a Mr. Lorrison, a farmer, living just across the line in Illinois. This sale is to take the place of a machine beloug to Mr. Lorrison which was burned a few days ago, and is the second machine Mr. McFarrin has sold this person to take the place of threshers so destroyed.

This machine of Mr. Lorrison's was nicelv at work when the wheal stack caught on fire. It was at first thought it was accidental, but they now belite that somebody threw a match against it. When the fire was first discovered the men struck at it with their lorks thinking to put it out in that way. In this they signally failed for itlthrew the sparks in every direction and in an instant the whole rick was on fire. The wheat rick with perhaps 200 bushels of wheat was destroyed, as was also the threshing machine which could not be moved in time to save it. Nor is this all. The fire spread so suddenly that it burned the vest of a son of Mr. Lorrison in which was sixtyfive dollars in money obtained for a previous job of threshing. It was a serious loss to all the parlies, but they have now bought a new and splendid Vibrator Thresher from Mr. McFerriB, the popular dealer in agricultural implements on the West side of the public square, and will soon make good^their losses. ......
