BURYIN6 THE WR0N6 MAN.

Lost Husband Tunis Up Again After His Supposed Wake. From the Philadelphia Times. Standing oa the corner of Sixth and South streets, listening to the exciting adventures of ex-Sergeant Duffy in that quarter of vice and degradation bounded by Fifth street on the east, Eighth street on the west, Lombard street on the rorth. and Bainbrtdgc street on the south, attention was called by Mr. Duffy to a short, stout, ruddy-faced man, apparently 35 years of age, drawing an empty pushcart. "That man was buried alive," said Mr Duliy, "and all of a sudden, ami of course unexpectedly, one morning walked into the house where his wife and child "were and scared them almost to death."

This statement coming from Mr. Duffy, who was never known to perpetrate a joke, led to further inquiries, which resulted in ascertaining that the name of the man was Anthony Murphy, and that lie resided at 001 Alaska street, an old dilapidated frame house, one-and-a-half stories high. The. front room is a salesroom for second-hand clothing. In this room, on a lounge, was seated a young woman, who, when questioned as to where Mrs. Murpliy could be found, repliod that this was where Mrs. Murphy lived.

A moment later and a clieerful-looking woman, apparently about 38 years of age, made her appearance. "It is said that you buried your husband a few years ago, and that soon afterward he came back to you in good health and is still living with you. Is that true, Mrs. Murphy V" was asked.

Mrs. Murphy sat down as if to narrate something, and sure enough she did give a narration: "About four years ago," she said "my husband bought himself a nice broadcloth suit up town in a Market street store. He paid $45 for it, and when Ike put it on next Sunday and went to early church with me he never looked so well in all his life. Two or three days after that he put on his new suit again, a pair of Canton flannel drawers and wolen hose. The drawers had a rip in the seam of the right leg, not longer than me finger, that I had intended to sew up the night before, but I forgot to do it. Me husband had other signs and tokens by whiGh I would know him anywhere. The finger of the right hand was not more than half as thick as any other finger upon his hand. He had cut a vein in it when he was a young man, and it had shriveled up, and left it so he could never straighten it out and then he had a mole on his right am below the shoulder, that was so like a wart that I would know him by that and when he went off without saying anything to me at all, and didn't come back after three or four days, I was greatly worried. I thought maybe somebody had killed him for his money and nice clothes, and thrown him overboard in the river, and so every time any stranger was taken to the morgue I would go there expecting to see me dear man. About four months after mc man first went away," continued Mrs. Murphy, "I was sent for to see if the man brought in from the river was me husband, and as soon as I laid me eyes upon him,'it'sme own blessed husband,' I said. There was his own sandy hair, lira mouth and teeth the same as ever there was the broadcloth suit, the Canton flannel drawers, with the same rent in the seam, and tlie woolen socks. I then looked for the signs and tokens whereby I would know him, and there was tho token on the arm just the same and the finger all lent and shriveled up small. I put my arms around the poor mans neck, and for love of him could have carised him home in my arms like a baby.

They wouldn't let me bring the poor man—God rest his soul—from the morgue to me house, and the funeral took place from the morgue, without a wake at all. There was me own brother, Peter Carlin, and the own brother of my husband—him in the rag business at Federal and Twenty ninth street®—Michael Murphy, I mean, and all me friends and neighbors weepin' over the poor man It cost me more than $100 to bury him in the cathedral cemetery. There were seventeen carriages attended the funeral each one brought his own carriage. But me black suit and the handsome coffin I put the poor soul in was what cost the monev." ,/ ''0, "I was at worn one morning, about four months after me man was buried, when a stranger walked in the door. I looked up ana there stood me own husband. I cried out: 'It's an angel come down from heaven,' and then 1 fainted dead away. When I came to he was still there, ancl I went back into the swoon again but when I got me senses all right, there stood mc husband, and all the neighbors that went to the funeral shaking hands with the poor man and wishing him good luck and asking how did he come back from the grave where he was buried, and all mc husband said was: 'I was out West that time.'

Mrs. Murphy was asked where her husband was, and said "This thing has worried me man a little, and lie was taken over to the insane department of the Almshouse for treatment. He is all right now, though, and I am going to bring him home this week."

A visit was paid to Mr. Murphy, in company with one of the physicians of the insane department, and, after talking upon some general subjects, the question was asked: "When you went away from home where did you go and he replied: "I wor in Wasconsun that time." "It is said a remarkable occurence took place while you were in Wisconsin was remarked. "Yes me woman had a wake, while I was aff," said Mr. Murphy. "Over you was asked. "Over a man washed up by the river," said Mr. Murphy, and then musing for a moment he saia: "The first I heard of this was at Fifteenth and Lombard streets, where I stopped in to get a beer, on my way home from tbe West, and the woman tola me she had attended me wake. I thought it a joke of hers, and went down till me home that time Iliveedin Bedford street, below Eighth, and when I got there the nabors were all scared like, and me wife went aff, and after a

while they told me they had a wake over me, and that's how they broke it gently to me that they thought I was dead ana buried." "But," said the visitor, "John Duffy and your wife's brother insist that you were really buried, and they will not believe anything else. Duffy says that you sometimes tell him what you saw in heaven, and that you expect to go back there soon again."

"I don't talk much to Duffy about it," said Mr. Murphy. I was- away in Wasconsun tfeat time." And that was all that Mr. Murphy would say about the matter.

Mrs. Murphy says the man at the morgue was the exact counterpart of her husband, even to the .color of his hair, and the clothes that were on him. "Did you ever cause the grave to be examined, to see if the corpse placed there by you had been removed?" asked the investigator of this remarkable ease.

Mrs. Murphy answered that she had not that she believed she buried a man who hail been drowned, whom her friends as we* as herself had mistaken for her liustfand, and that he was in heaven praying for her, ands would never disturb him.

Ex-Sergeant Duffy appears to believe that the man was not dead that he was buried in a trance, and after burial x^as taken to one of the quack medical colleges, and upon the first application of the knife consciousness began to return One thing is certain: Mr. Murphy was as sound in mind previous to his burial as any man, and since that time his wife

Neuralia—A Remarkable Cure. The following extracts are from a letter received from S. A. Russell, Mesca lero Agency, New Mexico, dated Jun 5th, 1879:—"I felt satisfied that if the remedy (Compound Oxygen) was really what you claimed it to be it was just what I wanted for a daughter who had been a sufferer with neuralgiafor more than fifteen years. I wrote you for a copy ol your Treatise on Coin pond Oxygen. After reading this little work, ana the certiflcatesof such men as Judge Kelley, S. Arthur, and others, I felt that if these were genuine, there must be mil merit in the remedy. I then ordered the remedy sent to my daughter in Kansas. That was about (me year ago, and since using the supply then ordered, my daughter has not only not had neuralgia, but considers herself in perfect health. Regarding my daughter as having, through the blessing of God, been permanently cured of as stubborn a case of neuralgia as it is possble for any person to be afflicted with and live, by he use of your Compound Oxygen, I esteem it a pleasure and a duty to send you this statement" Our Treatise on
