From Saturday's Daily. T1IR YOUNO DBMOCRACY
met at their hall, over S. Loeb's, last night. President Miller was in the chair and Mr. Saml. Hammil was called to acl at scc:etary.
The order of business was suspended to allo*v Mr. David W. Taylor to make a speech. Mr. Taylor handles his subject cart full v, easily and forcibly. He has lew tquals among the young men in the county. He thought it a good argument when Republicans congratulate themselves and the public on trie sale passage over the terriole financial crisis to call their attention to the fact that it was their legislation which produced that criMs. He said one thing to seriously fear by iJemocrat# is the little dissention* in the party in some parts 0! the connty. 1 licse differences will all ba made right, it all will go to work with that view in the right spirit, and the election find us stronger than ever.
He felt that the present mass of the peopltt—the working people, at any rate —would appreciate the efforts made to show up the means whereby North Carolina negroes are being deluded into coming to this state on promise of plenty of work and high wage*, when neither the one nor the other can he obtained, and when there is scarcely enough to keep employed those already here.
The working people are gradually waking up to the true ntuation and with them the politicians are becoming aware that the exodus won't work, and are bandoning it.
Mr. Taylor had some timely remarks on the urgent necessity in politics as in business nd all of other kuccessful enenterprises that there be organization.
Calls were made for Prosecutor A. J. Kellev,wt"o was present. He declined to speak, except briefly. He said ther§ were about twenty-five North Carolina colured men in Sugar Creek township cutting wood, but that, alter the Reprbilcans there had learned of the cruel scheme by which they were induced to come, a number had announced themselves as through with the party.
Mr. Eugene V. Debs, one of the most active workers and easy speakers in the club, spoke for a few moments. He saw in the succession of elections in April, May and the fall a great deal is at stake. The contest has waxed warmer and warmer each year. He nad some advice for the ck\b.
A bill was allowed to T. B. Snapp of $8.75 and some new members taken in. COLOKBD REPUBLICANS.
The Young Men's Republican club met at their hall last night, and was addressed by E. ,D. Seldomridge. The speaker dwelt upon the importance of the colored people voting the Republican ticket, which is not extraordinary in view of the present condition of that party. The speaker was rather quiet about the colored exodus, referring to it in the ueual way of the Republican speakers, viz: The negroes fleeing from oppression, robbery, blood hounds and the gallows. The "milk and honey" circular of Mail Agent Walker was not mentioned.
The speaker did not attempt to prove that the colored man's condition was in any way better by his being imported here. One shining, utterance in Mr. Seldomridge's speech was that a man becomes civilized when he ceases to be a Democrat.
After the speaker finished, yells were set up for Mail Agent Walker, Simon Daniel and James Wood, and the/ told what they knew about politics in general. LOST CREEK TOWNSHIP DEMOCHATS.
The Democrats of Lost Creek Township met at the Township House last night and organised a club. There was a very general turn-out, the house being full. Mr. Holden presided over the meeting and H. C. Griffith was secretary.
A speech was made by John E. Lamb, which lasted, perhaps,'a half hour, and was well received by all who heard him. Others followed him in short speeches.
A number of .signers to the club were obtained, and a preliminary organisation was effected.| Next Friday night another meeting of the club will be held at Smalls' school house, which is tiro miles south of the Township House.
Friday night,March 12th,t meeting will be held at the Township House for the purpose of selecting a Township ticket. The Democracy ot Lost Creek is wide awakejand means business this year. 'i he other day Ebenezer Edmunds interviewed an evoduster, and, merely to fiiid out what he intended to do, offered him a job. His exodustership wanted $16 a month for farm labor and when offered $12 rejected it with scorn, expressing a preference for starvation before he would work for less than he got in North Carolinj. He was not taken, Mr. Edmunds says the woods in his neighborhood are full of resident laborers out of a job and glad enough to work for $12. ',^7

Announcement it made in thie issue of the GAZETTE of the candidacy of Wm. R. Mercer for the County Clerkship, subject to the decision of the Democratic nominating convention. Mr. Mercer is an old and well-known citizen of Vigo County. He was actively engaged in business, here in Terre Haute, until with in the past few years and his career as a business man was such as any person might be proud of. He is now living on a farm and is devoting to that pursuit the energy he displays in the conduct of everything he undertake. Should he succeed in obtaining the nomination Mr. Mercer wouldd make a strong race before the people, for he stands well with all who ever knew him.
There will be a meeting at the Democratic Central Club room next Monday night. All Democrats should turn out. V..V\
The Democratic primaries in the Various Wards this evening should be well attended. A very great deal depends upon the way in which these meeting are conducted. General interest ought to be taken in them. REPUBLICAN TOWNSHIP CONVENTION.
