Mr. Jos. Blake was present with about twenty-five proxies but as the society had decided at a previous meetiag to admit no proxies, these ballots were not counted.

After considerable delay the appended list of directors was chosen: Geo. W. Kruzan, U. R. Jeffers,j Geo. F. Jenckes, Jos. Gilbert, L. Heinl, H. D. Stfott, W. S. Clirt, 'all of whom were oa the old board), and W. T. Beauchamp, O. M. Curry, j. N. Phillips, W. J. Cusick and A.. B. Peg'g, who are new men. The gentlemen who retire are H. C. Robinson, T. L. Durham, V. G. Xidkhamt, J. C. Myers and E. Littleton.

On the 17th the board will meet and ect its own officers. It is the intention to make the next fair a big «ucce$s»

Richard Cobden, England's greaCstatesman, said that in-all his intercenflffcowltti natlong he discovered nothing w8ic»!should occupy the htinds of tbe people that of temperance. How tyyaagfe the army of young (neri and ylw m«5?irt»o areneiritlg a drunkard's grave should be the great issue of the people of this country. Some time since, Mr. Bain said, he read a startling article in an influential ^ew Yorlj, paper in' which it was stated that roori mciiey was spent lor drink during one year than for clothing, fopd, newspapers, periodicals and booka during the sarfje period. Thiii great fact ahould: be pondered over by the American people. The speaker said he once knew a. man in Kentucky, who was known as tlie "Politician of the Cross Roads." He could always be found at the village saloon discoursing to a crowd of loafers. He would lell them whit the Legislature should do and he would take one drink he would tell what Congress should do that session and then he would take two drinks: then he'd tell them what lie would do if he was put in office and he would drink all he could hold. Well, one day this 6ame politician of the cross roads was told that a temperance meeting was going to be held in the little village, and he declared he would go and break it up. But quit£-th£ reverse —he was broken Up." The temperance lecturer 6aid something and the Cross Road politician declared that "it wasn't a lie the lecturer said something else and he said it wa® a fact add beftire the meeting wa6 over he came to the conclusion that the whole thing was one great fact and he went upand sighed the pledge. Well, a day or two after this the reformed politician was sitting with his happy wife in their now happy home and he suddenly declared he had an idea. The wife asked what it was and Tie told her

they should organize a little family legislature he could be president, his wife treasurer^ ahd hi

Mr. Bain said that family still lived in his«native state, and were enjoying great prosperity. Jpuch anecdotes and illustrations were scattered through thi6 lecture, and it is said tbHay werte thoroughly enjoyed py tbe'dUdWrfce.
