Bain, Kentucky's -great temperance orator, spent the holidays at home with his family and friends in Louisville, after an extended Western trip for temperance. The people and papers wherever he has gone speak in the highest terms of him. He is the only man to oar knowledge who seems to please everybody.' He is doing oceans of good for humanity's cause, and is receiving invitations from nearly every sta*e in the Union to speak for them. There is no man in the United States who has worked harder and suffered more for the temerance cause than Bain and he deseryes the excellent -success he is meeting with, and we wish him God speed in.his.noble endeavors."

Miss Bertie Bqrden, of 60uth Seventh street, who has been visiting her sister, Mrs. Harry Wigley, in St. Lsuje. for the past three months* returned to her home last Saturday.
Mr. H. Hulman has purchased three hundred car loads of salt which is pouring into the city ten or fifteen car loads a day. The salt will be stored at different places along thfc road.
Mr. Ed. Stuart, senior member of the Cabh Merchant Tailoring firm is nOw in Boston buying goods for the spring trade He has recovered from his recent illness and will, probably visit this city the last 'of the week.
