THE reason why medical practitioners do not hesitate to prescribe Dr. F. Wilhoft's Anti-Periodic or Fever and Ague Tonic, is as follows: Messrs. Wheelock, Finlay & Co., of New Orleans, its proprietors, have published its composition, and physicians have approved it because it contains no dangerous drug, and because it invariably proves success- ~¥, ful. Prophet* at St. Louis Last Night.
It wat the Grandest Spectacle Ever Presented in the West.

Wagons.
ST. Louis, Oct. 8.—The grand pageaat of the Veiled Prophets went through the city to-nighf, ani was the most magnificent spectacle ever presented in the West, and perhaps surpassed in extent and splendor, any of the Mardi Gras carnivals of the South. It consisted ot twenty-two tableaux, mounted upon immense wagons, each drawn by eight horses, richly caparisoned, and led by servants in the livery of the order. The whole presented a panorama of progress, or a feitival of the Vulcan and the Muses illustrating the development of mechanical art. The tableaux in their order were:
First, a volcano in eruption, emitting fire, and pouring moulten lava down its sides, showing to primitive man that intense heat would render the hardest materials subject to his will.
Second, a cave of the Cyclops, forging the thunder bolts of Jupiter, and making implements of agriculture and war. third, the art of pottery, or the moulding of clay into ornament,.and^household utensils. iri
Fourth, representing wood carving. Fifth, sculpture, or the carving of stone.
Sixth, the discovery of music, representing a number of ancient musical instruments.
Seventh, weaving, showing the spinning wheel, distaff and loom. Eighth, painting, representing this art in its various 6tages. ,,s
Ninth, architecture. Tenth, the wheel as a means of locomotion.
Eleventh, ship building.
Fifteenth, time, showing the progress from the hourglass to thfe chronometer S ix as on in a phases.
Seventeenth, printing, represented by the primitive press and crude implements of the art preservative of all arts
Eighteenth, steam, showing its application to machinery, etc. Nineteenth, electricity, showing telegraph lines and showing how it may be. used in other ways
Twentieth, the cauldron of the Veiled Prophets, showing that good cooking is a desirable art.
Twenty-first, the slate dinner service of the Veiled Prophets, showing some of the comforts and elegancies ot life
Twenty second, the grand oracle of (he Veiled Prophets, in lofty state, surveying the splendid spectacle preceding him.
The night was favorable. It seemed &s though every man, woman and child in the city and surrounding country, for miles, had turned out to see the sight. The streets along the line of march were densely thronged.
The pyrotechnic display along the line fhe rotite 'Wtss the most brilliant ever shown here. The exhibition was a perfect success in evferv respect.
At last account* this offer had not been accepted.. Moral: There it nothing so infatuating as music, especially when obtained by a crank motion. It is not to be expected that the Monkgy shall grind the Organ and the Master dance the Hornpipe-
