A letter to the Inter-Ocean says of Steele Mackave's Theatre in Madison Square, New York: "A novel feature is a double-decked stage, to be worked, like an elevator, up and down. The late Charles Tennyson Turner, while a charming poet, was one of the most diffident of writers his heart was in his brother Alfred Tennyson's progress and success much more than in his own. His work was original, yet he had a morbid apprehension that it was not original. He had a noble tenderness for all living things, and a swallow which he shot when a boy waa remembered with remorse all his life.

She was playing about the chair of her father the prisoner, then being tride for burglary, while the witness, her father's alleged confederate in the crime, was describing how he made the entry into the building burglarized. After getting into one room he found the door leading into the next secured by a heaVy stone on the other side. He pressed against the door but could not open it. and— Hire he itopped to allow tn$ lawyers to write down the testimony. At this pause the small damsel, who had seemingly been wholly inattentive to what was being said, turned towards the witness and sharply inquired, "Well, then, hc*w did you get through?'* The. remark aame put so pretiy and from such an unexpected source that the Judge could not refrain from smiling, althoughwbia yes with tears, while the of loner Went on to tell how he did "get tmjugh.'

After reading about the "interviews" or royal courtship of. Alfonso of Spain and Marie of Austria, we firmly declare that it would never do for us to be a prince royal and have to court a girl in the presence of an embassador. We should throw hifti out of the window. There is little pleasure in being a prince, and no young Americap^ith any sand in hiqi would take the position and court a girl with an ambassador looking on.

Extra pains will be taken to have everything that hungry visitors to the city may de sire. And" he does not propose to take advantage of the crowds that will be here at that time by raising his rates. The same popular prices will he maintained then as heretofore, and the soldier boys, their sisters, their cousins and their aunts can get a meal just the same as citizens have been doing for several years at only 25 cents.
