An Intorview With Congressman T. H. Herndon, of the First Alabama OUtrkft.

The South's Fir.4fc Choice for Hendricks for the Presidency, With Thurman a

Frein tlii fndlau&pjoTls Scntl'ftel. Colonel Thomas H. Iierndon, of Mobile, representative to Congress from the First Alabama district, who has been in the city for several days past, visiting his relative, Mrs. Kinder, on Lockerbie street, leaves for Chica'go this evening to spend a day or two there before returning home. A representative of the Sentinel who called updn him last evening found him to be a fine-looking, gentleman, Of engaging manners And agreeable address, and, as might be naturally suppQsed, thoroughly converse ant with and interested in tbecondition of political, social and commerlcal affairs in hi$6e:tion of the country. After explaining the object of his call, the Sentinel reporter put fdrth the following question: What is tlWf feeling toward •Governor Hendricks inj yoqr dis ricts, colonel

Colonel Herndon—Oh!' Governor Hendricks is a great favorite with the party in my district, and, indeed, I think is the choise of the entire state. Alabama was for him, you know, in 18761, at St. Loui«, ana only finally VQt$d f^r Tik'en from policy.

Repo.t'.r—Is Governor Hendricks popular throughout the South generally ?4' Colonel Herndon—Yes. We like.him for his. course, duiirg ,th£. war, and because of his fine 6tawst$an-like ipdnduo.t. ant1, also, because of ,UU political strength in the West and North. The .South is willing to accept the man ,th6 party in the Noith selects. Judge Thurman is •quite popular with us, too.- Should General E wing win in Ohio, it will advance jud^e Tl.yrm.ui with us. and ma o? course, put E'.ving to the fore, The people, however, generally prefer Hendricks-over Thurman,. because he is a young mac, and has mote energy and vigor.

R—Does the financial question enter into the government of your choice? Colonel H.—No. WV are now far more interested in other- things than the monev quest iov.H?^
