THURSDAY, JANUARY 31,1878.
ON next Saturday there will be an AN' nular eclipse of the sun.
OLD Madison Wells, of malodorous returning board fame, seems to have taken the law into his own handr, and sought solitude like a hunted fawn. He doesn't propose returning to be bored by a grand jury, or a criminal court.
IN New Orleans the criminal court is proceeding with the trial of Anderson, t»ne of the Louisiana returning board, who is under indictment for crookedness in his official conduct as a member of the board. A jury was secured yesterday md and the trial begins in earnest to-day.
BEN BUTLER interjected a motion te adjourn, yesterday, while an anti-subsidy motion was pending in the house. Ad tnirers of the doughty warrior ought to yell with delight over the hurling of this brick by Benjamin. We forgot to mention that his motion was voted down and the anti-subsidy resolution passed,
JOHN NESTOR, of Booneville, Warwick cour.ty, this state, is in the city. Mr. Nestor is the present auditor of Warwick county, and having been faithful over the interests entrusted to his care in that office, his constituents propose, if possible* to give him guardianship over the many interests belonging to the state, auditor's office.
IN the senate now, the absorbing ques tion is the Bland silver bill. It is probable the debate on this bill will continue without intermission for a week or more. It occupied all the time yesterday, after the expiration of the morning hour, and is up again to-day. It will pass the senate, but the majority it receives will be the matter of interest.

AMONG the foreign dispatches re ceived yesterday is the following oiv from Paris, France, which indicates that metlalic money is under discussion- in that country. The dispatch is as foi* Iow8\
Paris, Jan. 29.—The senate, on Monday, unanimously approved the bill re newing the temporary suspension of the obligations of the French mint to coin any silver taken thither duiing the dismission. Leon Say, minister of finance, said that the measure was made necessary by the American situation, international commerce with India and the condition of the German money market, and that the Latin monetary standard would have to be discussed and settled hereafter. In this view M. D. Parieu, the eminent statesman, senator irom Cantal, agreed, while urging the adoption of the gold standard.
THE "BOSSJOE" ROBBERY. The robbery in the "Boss Joe" establishment, an account of which was given in the GAZETTE of yesterday, was committed before the piesent receiver, Judge John T. Scott, took charge. As stated, the robbery was committed on Friday night of last week. Judge Scott took charge, as receiver, on Monday. Messrs McCune, Foley, Pound, and Van Meter, are engaged now, under the re ceiver, taking an inventory, which, when compared with that taken by the sheriff immediately after tne failure, will the loss by the robbery.

Greatest Musical
Invention of the Age!
NEEDHAM'S MUSICAL CABINET. A novelty in musical instruments Is the musical cabinet, a new invention which has been lately patented by E. P. Nee ham, manufacturer of the celebrated organ bearing his name. Several specimens of the new instrument were /eceiv ed Friday, by Mr. L. Kussner, of the Palace of Music. The cabinet is designed to take the place of organs in charche6, schools, or families where the latter instrument is considered too expensive to purchase, or where practical musicians cannot be found. From the great simplicity of its construction, its cheapness and freedom from liabilicy of getting out of order, it will probably come into general favor. Its simplicity is remarkable. There are no keys, no stops, no valves nothing, in fact, but a bellows and reed board. The music intended tc by played is cut in stiff paper, ins'c.d of being printed on the paper. A .mall piece is cut out of the paper for each nole. The paper is made to pass over the reed board by turning a crank, and the paper acting as a valve, of course when the openings in it pass over the reeds the pror er note is produced. 1 he bellows are worked and the paper moved by turning the same crank. The instrument will Dluy both sacred and operatic music reaiily. Five pieces of music go with each instrument, and any other piece wanted can be ordered in the same manner and at the same expense as 6heet music. A whole opera can thus be cut in paper and played. It is said that Mr. Needham ?6 now preparing an opera for it, and that when finished, the paper will be sixty feet long. Th? sound produced is very sweet and pleasant, and compares favorably with that of tHfe standard organ. We advise all to go to the Palace of Music and inspect this new machine for producing sweet melodies.

EXTRAORDINARY CURE OF A CASE OF BLINDNESS. The cure ef a case of almost total blindness, of several years standing, has been effected by J.. W. Culbertson of the Indianapolis eye and ear infirmity, 36 West Washington street, in the case of Rev. Mr. Jellison, of the county of Ran dolph. Mr. Jellison is well known to many of our readers and the testimonial he gives to the skill that has opened afresh to his vision the world that had so long been phropdedin darkness to him, is both a fitting expression of his gratitude, and, a flattering acknowledgement of the skill and scientific attainments of the gentleman te whom it is addressed
We have been intimately a quainted with Dr. Culbertson evr fcince he has resided in this city, have witces* ed him perform a number of delicate and most difficult surgical operations U|~on the eye and ear, and it is with pleasure that we see his skill and attainments appreciated by the afflicted, and to know that he is reaping the reward of the time and labor spent ia acquiring the facility he possesses in the treatment ol the organs of sight and hearing. The cures that have been perfo.med by Dr. Cul. ert6on upon persons of our immediate acquain ance, are numerous—many of them are as remarkable as the one we have already 1 efetred to. To the persons who have thus been restored we refer, the afflicted, knowing that our statements will more than be sustained by their testimony Dr. C. will be at the Terre Haute House the 28th and 20th inst.
