,v U.-li&t IT 'CUM BUSHELo' a "•'y ^V""' SALT.' .\-?v' ».• 'from the Pittsburg Telegraph.

We need hardly say that we do not vouch for the following story. furnished US by a venerable citizen of Ohio, who xiaima to have taken part in the alleged transaction Naturally an Ohioi. gets an office, and if he fai'.6, we presume that he is excusable for drawing a long bow upon old recolccttcfn*$?J$*

One beautiful summer twilight some years ago I was reposing on my neck a large arm char, wtfh my feet resting corclessly upon the mantel-pseces, when I wan suddenly interrupted from my reverie by only son—commonly called Jim—(smart child) pushing his head through the half-open door and bhoutmg at the top of his voice: •Old Grant has a babv!'

This communication startled rre ,not that I was alarmed at the idea of Mr. Grant being in 6uch a precarious condition, for I knew that mv son hud mitrepresented the- facts of the case, but I was filled with consternation at the alarming way in which the Grant family waa slowly but surely increasing. 'Boy or giri?' I inquired. 'Boy.' 'Have »heV a name for it?' "No, and that's just what's raisin' a rumpus, h^y ar*: having a high old time over there. Old Grant's rarin' round, and he waits the child named Dan Webster Grant, while Mrs. Grant's ma wants him named George Francis T. Grant. She says she thinks George Francis Train is an angel in disguise, and old Grant M^ya 'mad'—backwards—George Francis Train!'" "Mr Grant's mi says 'call him Henry Ward B. Grant,' and then old Grant says

mad' backwarort again* He doesn't care what they call him, only so they don't call him too late for his wittles.

The bab* 's Aunt Jamintha says to call him Hannibal Carthage Grant, and then old Grant pays why don't they call him Beelzebtib if they want such oldfashioned name* 'And then in comfcS the preacher and says, kind of solemn like, 'call him Obadiah Ezekiel Grant and then tht? old man savs, 'O eoshl' and then the preacher says,"'Mr. Grant I am come over at such language,' and old Grant put on his hat and went down to the tannery awful mad. 'Then the baby's aunt Vemessiys, 'look at the old fool he's indigent because we don't call the dear cherub Jetse, as if we would call him that outlandish name. I want to know if we haven't got something to say about that child, when its ny sister's own. As for me I propose trf** Sylvanus Cobb, Jr., Grant, and that's what the child's agoir.' to be called, you bet. 'After bit old Grant comes a rushin' back, brings a lot of people with him, and alter a good bit of talking they got a hat, and eveiybody wrote a name on a piece of paper, and 'Squire Qyackenbosh says: 'Now, vou'll all understand, the fifth one draws the prize and then he says to me, 'Sonny, come up and pick out five slips ot paper, one at a time.' Of course I did

as I was told. tc Thefirstone I handed tothepreac'.er, and he readout loud Claude Melnotte Grant,' the second one Richard Plantagenety'Grant,' and the third «ne 'Charles Spurgeon Grant,' and the fourth one was 'J Wilkes Booth Grant,' and then the Squire said, 'Now, be cireful, sonny. Remember the fifth one-dtRwa the prize,' and then 1 drew out another one, and the preacher read with an awful loud voice, 'Old-Man AlVaid-of-His-Morse Grant,' and Mr. Grant said, Hold on that's „j I too thin dash me ii I'll take that,' and

Squire Quackenbosh said that it would hardly do, and said we would commence *9 all over again, and no Indian name al lowed in the hat. "So every person wrote new names and the preacher says: 'Now no jokes this time we desire nam»s that are ap "it proprirte, and the third One shall be ap piieu to this dew drop fresh from heaven.' 'Yes,' says old Grant, 'the third time's the charm, and no.phenani"Tiii gan.

To Tourists.

No portion of the continent of America presents so much grandeur, beauty and marvelous interest to the Tourist as the famous Rocky Mountain region of Eastern Colorado, in the vicinity of the beautiful City of Denver. The magnifi cence of the mountain scenery is equaled only by that of Switzerland, and many Tourists from abroad have pronounced Colorado scenery superior to even that of the Alps. The popular resorts in the mountains, famed alike for their grand surroundings and their magical waters, are daily becoming recognized as the MOST DRLIGHTFUL in America for either health or recreation. Hundreds of people, tired of the resorts of the East, are going to spend the summer in the grand old Rocky Mountains amid its charming parks, majestic 6now-clad peaks, grand canons, clear sky and magic atmosphere. The popular KANSAS PACIFIC RAILWAY, with its 6teel rail and automatic air brakes, is the favorite Tourist Route and the only line running Pullman cars from Kansas City to Denver. Low round trip rates from all eastern cities. Descriptive touri ts circulars, maps and guides sent free, upon application to the general passenger agent Kansas Pacific Railway, Kansas City, Mo.
