The Candidates Thu3 Far in the Field

The selection of a Mayor to fill the vacancy occasioned by the death of the Hon. James B. Edmunds is creating considerable interest, and it is thought that some patriot can be found who will sacrifice himslf on the altar of his country, thus avoiding a draft.

The first person interviewed by the reporter was JL'OGE A. B. CARLTON, whose name has been prominently mentioned in connection with the office by his friends. The Judge stated that he did not desire to ^e a candidate for a variety of reason* among others, that he does not wish to come in competition with his friends for the nomination.

JAMES M. ALLEN

was next interrogated. He does not desire to enter into any bitter contest for the place.

MARTIN HOLLINGER.

This gentleman stated that he would not go into convention for the nomination. He wishes it to be understood that he is not a candidate.
