MIKE SCULLEY.
TIIE GREAT WALK SUCCESSFULLY ACCO MP LI SUED. On Saturday evening the beginning of the end of Mike Sculley's great walk of 1.077 miles was commenced at Dowling Hall in the presence of a large crowd. Yesterday the walk continued at the same place, and the hall was visited by several hundred including a large number who came over on an excursion train from Paris, III.
About twelve o'clock to-day, a crowd began to assemble at the hall to see Mike make his last mile.
At 26 minutes to one o'clock he started on the final trip, accompanied by the Nova Scotia Giant to cheer him on. and much to the surprise of all, he made the mile in twelve minutes and fifty-four seconds, but a trifle longer time than the first mile. lie held out game to a wonderful degree lor, on last night his feet began to swell in a most painful manner, and he was nearly obliged to give up, but cloths were bound on his leet and he pushed on. making his seventy five miles in twenty four hours, and the one thousand miles in a thousand hours.
This is said to be the first, time the feat hat ever been accomplished, although many have tried it all were ob.ige 1 to break down or become seriously injured by the attempt.
Mike'was loudly cheered on the last turn of the mile and was accompanied by Capt. Bar.iett to cheer him on.
After Mike finished, the Nova Scotia Giant gave a specimen of fast walking, making a quarter of a mile in one minute fiftv-one and a quarter seconds.
A bet of $1,000 was offered that Scully can walk a mile hourly for two months, with an interval of two weeks for rest. The bet is yet open.
