A meeting of some of the leading men of Brooklyn, was held at the Academy of Music in that city, last nijiht, to take stepa to secure the annexation of New York aud Brooklyn. Speeches were made by S. B. Chittenden, John Winslow, Park Commissioner Stanhau aud others, and an association was formed to promote a plan for the uuion of the two cities.
Jesse W. Wicks, aged 15years, was accidentally shot in the head and iuRtantly killed, lant nigiit, by his cousin, Jesse L. Clark, aged 14 years, at his residence, No. 17 Jones street, jlotli had gone to led together, and while ('lark was examining a small derrinner, which lie had taken from under his pillow, it was discharged, \he contents lodging iu the brain of young Wicks.
A dNpateh from Washington says that Presideut Grant recently puri'based a lot of ground containing nearly 15,000 square feet, and which fronts Circle street at tiie intersection of and Thirteenth street ami Vermont and Rhode Island avenues. The price paid was $22,315.50. The Presideut proposes to erect a line residence in whijh to make his home when he retires from the Presidency.
Ciik.yknne, February 13.—A mail courier from Red Cloud Ageucy, arrived at Fort Laramie, saya that Frank Appleton, acting Indian Attentat Red Cloud, was murdered Monday nijjht by tiie Minnecongus Indians. They shot him when he opened the door. The Indians stole fourteen mules and also seized beef cattle. The Sioux, Arrapahoea and Cheyeuues are on the war path, aud their line of operations extends from Laramie to the Republican Vallev, exposing the fronties to depredations for over 300 miles. The Government needs 10,000 soldiers here to protect life and property.

Allknstuwn, Feb. 10.—A freight train ou tiie Lehigh & Wuequehuua Kiilromi ran into a Iaii(l-*llle, near {Stale Dam Station,this morning. Tie engine jumped the track, throwing 18 cars oft of the raiiH, and three in'-n were instantly killed and a number more or less seriously injured—some fatally. Owen?, passed through the city by the 1:15 train from Chicago yesterday, en route to Louisville, where lie had an engagement for last night. Mr. Owens was not with the party, however, he having missed tiie train. Whether or not ho managed to make the connection by another route we are not informed.
