A resolution was introduced by Mr. Small, offering $100 for the best five acres of corn to be awarded the meeting of tne Board in January next, which, after being amended by offering S20 for the

acre of corn raised by a boy under sixteen years of age was adopted. A Resolution was also passed, instructing the Board to request the next I.egislature to prohibit the running at large of fall bulls, stallions, jacks, boars, and ranis.

story of a darkey boy who «'as instructed to secure the callers' cards, at a certain house on Saturday, and did very well until he had surrcptiously got a glass or two more of egg nog than he could stand, when he refused to allow gentlemen to pass without "tickets." Round Iance.«.

The following dialogue is fiOTn the Catholic literary magazine published in Philadelphia, called Our Own:

What eye can follow the co ir.-e of a couple of modern whirligigs a- they describe their wondrous circle- ove.' the ball room floor? Like seaworthy crafis thev alternately dip, and pitch, and skim— now appearing in full sail before what would seem a steady breeze then obeying the sudden rising of the instrumental gale, they swing to the leeward, roll to the windward, and after a brief struggle are submerged altogether, and found at last in some out-of-the-way corner, panting, gasping, perspiring, but supremely happy, and ready for another cruise. Now the question arises, in what does the extreme pleasure consist? Perhaps the following conversation between a young lady and a clergyman may throw some light on the subject: "Please tell me, Father, is it a sin to dance the round dances?" "What am I to understand by round dances?" "Waltzes, polkas, galops, etc." "Describe a galop." "Why, it's something like a waltz, only swifter, and the steps are different, and there are several changes as you make the circuit of the room," "Alone?" :w"By no means a partner, of course." "Gentleman, 1 presume?" "Well, yes gentlemen preferred." "Takes the lady by the hand?' "Not exactly at least, by one hand." "And liowdoas he dispose of the other?" "Well, why"—blushing deeply—"you know the lady has to be supported, and so her partner just touches her waist slightly, and—" "But that would afford no support." "Well' she reats on his ar—hand just a little, Father." "But then she must have a superfluous hand if he takes but one." "Oh, she rests her other hand upon his shoulder, just enough to steady herself." (More blushes.) "But"—very matter of fact—"is that comfortable?" "Oh, yes, father, very comfortable." "If many couple dance at once, I should think there would be danger of their coming in contact." "Sometimes, but they recover themselves immediately." "And the lady is not thrown away from her partner?" ?'0h, not at all he holds her too closely." "I think"—taking a pinch of snuff—"I understand now what you mean b_v a round dance, which 1 presume you enjoy very much." "It is perfectly enchanting! particularly when the music is line and one has a good partner." "Do yon dance with any gentleman who is introduced? In society there must be some bad men." "Well, I'd rather dance with a bad man who is a good dancer, than a good man who is a bad dancer. It don't make much odds about the character of the gentleman, so he is a good dancer. But then, to be sure, I enjoy it a good deal more when I know the character of a gentleman, and like him." "And you think this is proper, and modest, and maidenly, to go careering over a ball room floor in the arms of a man whom you might or might not have known ten minutes previously." "Well, no but it is the custom." "Would you permit a stranger entering your father's house, to assume the position of a gentleman in the round dance, and conduct you .through your parlors?'. "Of course not that would be shockiug-" ... "My child, ifi the eyes of God it is the same."

AT TARRY-

A Desperate and Betrayed Husband Kills His Wife and Two Friends.

It is now asserted that the wife of Isaac Van Wart Buckhout, who, with two men named Randall—father and son—was murdered near Tarry town, N. Y., on New Year's Day, by her husband, is a notoriously bad woman. She is accused of incest'in England. Atone time, her husband savs, he caught his brother in bed with her. She is accused of adulterous intercourse with other persons. Her husband had left her a half dozen times, but invariablv returned to her.

On Christmas Day Mr. Isaac Buckhout and his wife visited the family of Mr. Randall, and on New Year's Day MiRandall and his son made a return visit. Mrs. Randall was sick, and, on that account, Miss Randall did not feel disposed to leave home but why Isaac Buckhout should have shot Mr. Randall and his son is unknown. On the first day of his incarceration in prison, he inquired wheth er he had killed his brother, and remarked that if he had not killed him he ought to have done so. Yesterday, the prisoner changed his tactics, simulating insanity. On passing through the Court House building to the prison, he recognized an acquaintance and distant reluti\e and called him bv name, but almost innnediatelv after he pretended not to know him or understand what was said to him l\\ his old friend. Not more than ten minutes had elapsed after the arrival of the Randalls at Buekhout's house, when Mrs. Francis Weeks, a neighbor, heard two reports from the discharge of a gun, in quick succession. She went to the house, meeting Buckhout, who passed her without speaking. On entering the open door she saw at a glance the extent of the tragedy. In tlie sitting-room Alfred Randall was seated on a chajr, his feet crossed, and surrounded by a pool of blood, his neck having received the charge of bucksho^t which severed the carotid artery and divided the spinal chord, killing him instautlv. He still held in his hand a part of a goblet, out of which he had been drinking cider, and it is thought that when he first saw Buckhout point the weapon at him. lie instinctively raised the glass to protect himself, and the shot striking this carried awav the upper part of it.

Lving bleeding and unconscious on a sofa, iu the same apartment, was Charles Randall, having been wounded in the right temple. In a kitchen adjoining the sitting room Mrs. Buckhout lay, seemingly dead her skull smashed hv blows from a gun,'the stock of which lay in splinters around her. Having emptied both chambers of a double-barreled gun into the bodies of the Randalls, it would seem that Buckhout entered the kitchen, and.having broken the stock of the gun into fragments on the head of his wife, struck her aeain with the barrels, sinking the hammers into her brain. She expired soon after the arrival of the neigbors.

MEDICAL.,

DOCTOR

wilbbr,office, con-

salUtion and Reception Rooms, 619 Washington Avenue, St. Lonis, Mo., treats with the prcatest success all Diseases of Woman, Lonnhoroea. or Whites Fallinr, inflamation or Ulceration of the Womb, Ovaritis, PrariUs, Amenorrhoca, Menorrhagia, Dysmenorrhma. and Sterility, or Barrenness also, every disease connected with Puberty, Menstruation or Prepnancy. Since the Doctor confines himself exclusively to the treatment of these complaints, and treats a very large number of cases, it follows that his knowledge of them must be far more exten* siveand accurate than that of physieians in. general practice. Send stamp for Medical Pamphlet of thirty-six pages. No mutter who have failed, rend what he says. Patients in every W cstern State. Cures guaranteed.— Consultation by letter or at office free. Room* for patients requiring daily attention. A lady assistant. Hour 9 a. m. to 7 p. u..

day excepted.

Cloths,

The Doctor opportunities in hospital and private practice are unsnrnnssed in St. Louis

or or any other city. Back files of St. Louis papers prove that he has heen located there longorby years than any other so advertising. The establishment, library, labratory and appointments, are unrivalled in tho West, unrivalled anywhere. Ag», with experience. can be rolied upon, and the Doctor can refer to many physicians throughout tha country. In past success and present posiion he stands without a competitor. THE WRITINGS OF A PHYSICIAN WHOSE

REPUTATION IS UNION-WIDE, ARE WORTH READING. Doctor Whittier publishes a Medical Pamphet relating to Venereal Diseases and th* disastrous and varied consequences of selfabusc. that will be sent to any address in a sealed envelope for two stamps. It contains full symptom lists that will enable those affected to determine the nature of their complaint and give a written statement of their caso that will answer almost as well forth* purpose of treatment as a personal interview: but where it is convenient the Doctor should be consulted personally. Thos* having friends that may require advice, can suppjy them with this vnluable work sending their address, with stamp. Thug you can assist the unfortunates without their knowing their benefactor. Certainly nosab* iect is of more importance than purity of blood and perfoct manhood.

It is self-evident that a physician who eornncs himself exclusively to the study of a certain class of diseascsand treat* thousands of cases every year, must acquire greater skill in that specialty than only general practice. Many physicians, recornising this fact, introduce nntients to the Doctor alter readinc hi.-* Medical Pamphlet. Communications confidential. A friendly talk will epst you nothing. Office eontral, yat retired. No. 617 St. Charles street, St. Louis. Mo. Hours, 9 a. m.. to 7 p. m., Sundays excepted.
