FOURTH OF Jolt.—The committee appointed to make arrangements for celebrating the. anniversary of American Independence, met at the Mayors office last evening for consultation. Sou off the gentlemen, appointed found it Inconvenient tolerVe, and -alter vacancies were filled the committee consists of the .following:

L. A. Burtiirt, Preslden t", G. F. Cook*rly, K. Stewart, E. I. Holden, Gnorgo J£cHenry, I. N. Piorce, I. L. MnhaT, Dr. Dougherty, C. Raichart, W Myere,

B. Alien, James O'Mara, D.iniel Crowe, M. C. Rankin, and Dr. H. \anwalsah.

Tbe committee will meet at the same plane this evening, at which time a full programme will be maie.

Tbe committe invite all who feel an interest, or bave any suggestions to make, to meet at tbe rfume time.3

PERSONAL, VERY.—The Indianapolis

<Mirror> does not seem to be favorably im-

pressed with J. Madison Allen, the "pastor in charge" of the spiritual congregation in this city. Speaking of the closing exercises of the Spiritual Convention in

that city, it says: The evening's entertainment commenced with a choice performance by a first class lunatic from Terre Haute, J. Madison Allen, husband of the Bloomer, who delivered himself of an hour's speech in a trance state. Mr. Allen claimed no responsibility for his utterances, and therefore our remarks can not be construed in-

:to

to personalities, if we say that his speech was destitute of any intelligent idea, inference or conclusion. It was more suggestive of Johnny Allen's "Few Remarks" than any thing we have heard outside a nigger show, and we think J. Madison must belong to the same Allen family.

And "hands another" thus-wise: J. Madison Allen, the trance-medium, reaches the doctrine of transmission of animal peculiarities to men, through the digestive organs, and discourages the use of pork on that account. We suspect J. Madison has been subjected at some period of his life to a dish of broiled donkey

of himself.
