Naples was recently covered with yellow dust, brought by a tempestuous south-east wind from Africa.

The fruit in the Purchase and tifardin county, Kentucky, has been severely in' jured, if not utterly destroyed by the frost of Tuesday night last.

The open-weather of the past winter has enabled farmers in Southern Virginia to get a large area of land broken up for a corn crop. The appearance of the growing crop of wheat is very encouraging.

The Turnbull family have been continuous clerks of Brunswick county, Va., since 1736. The gentleman recently moved from office by Gen. Stoneman was a Turnbull, and a descendant of the original clerk of 183 years ago.

A little girl at Keokuk, Iowa, was lately discovered giving trapeze performances in a barn before an admiring audience of schoolfellows. They had fitted up a trapeze with an old clothes line and a broomstick at an elevation of twenty feet.

In Minneapolis,'Minnesota, most of the flouring mills have stopped work for want of wheat, the efforts made by the various railroads during the past winter to secure freights having taken most of the surplus grain out of tbo hands of tbe farmers.

The Pennsylvania coal miners are holding a convention with a view of devising means of raising wages. They, contemplate adopting a plan whereby tbe mines shall be worked a certain number of days in tbe year, and remain idle the rest of tho time.

The New Orleans & Opslousas Railroad have just concluded a contract for sixteen thousand tuns of English iron of the first quality. This would, at the rate of fiftysix pounds to tbe yard, construct 1C2 miles of road, and bring' the Opolousas line to the Sabine.

The business of the Bank of England has increased so rapidly since tbe financial crisis of 1866 that the Court of Directors have resolved to enlarge tho historic bouse in Threadneedle stteet by.the addition of another story at the western portion of the building..

William Hurl out, of Cornwall, Yt., died last week of starvation, having eaten nothing, save what was forced into his stomach for nearly a year, from the fear that he should become a town pauper, although worth about $8,000, and a bachelor 70 years.

Tho Cape of Good Hope has been visited by a calamity unprecedented in its annals. A severo drouth had burned up everything, and the heat was..still rising, when, on the 9lh of February, fires broke out in several places, and in a very few hours covered a district four hundred miles in length, and from fifteen to fifty in breadth, destroying all houses, trees, crops, cattle, and apparently natives, a few Europeans only escaping by a rush for the nearest river. ju»
