OVERDONE.—It is certainly desirable that at a fire our engines and hose carts should be on hand as promptly as possible. But if the horse of Hose Cart No. 2 was kept to a good round trot, instead of being run and walked alternately, the fires would probably be reached as soon and the city would be saved the expense of paying the difference, a short time hence, between a broken-winded and sound horse, to say nothing in regard to cruelty to the animal. —————

success. He styles it a"velocipedinarium.'' The machine carries two passengers, and it is proposed to add a seat for one or two more. The construction is quite simple. There are four wheels, two in front, four feet in diameter, with foot cranks on each side; two in the rear, two feet in diameter,
and the whole of them connected together with a light iron frame work. The wheels are flanged the same as railroad wheels,
and the velocipedinarium is about the shape and size of a common railroad handccar. It weighs three hundred pounds.— The seats for the riders are in the rear of the two front wheels. The machine has made four and a quarter miles in sixteen minutes. It is the inventor's intention to have a seat made and placed on the frame work between the front and back wheels,

CRIMINAL COURT.—Yesterday Samuel F. F. Williams, indicted for petit larceny—stealing twenty-five cents from
oSfg&tfty, and
for grand larceny, was found guilty, and awarded two years in the penitentiary, with fine of one cent, and disfranchisement two years. He was in the employ of Dr. Read, and stole a lot of clothing
for the use of road masters or other railroad officers who have business over the road, and have two laborers to ride back of the driving wheels and do the leg work, where there are comfortable cushioned seats for them, and a hand rail in front to hold on, so as to balance themselves. ———<>———

The question still remains, however, it the chemical constitution of fusel oil is analogous to that of alcohol, and yet when taken in large doses it corrodes the gastric mucous membrane, what must be theofept ofalcohol upon that membrane?
