The Democratic city council ofEvansvilio, have gerrymandered the wards of that cky in a vain effort to .hold on to iheir temporary lcft30 of power. Too late. Their hour will soon strike. Tho people of Evansville have enjoyed the luxury of an "economical, Democratic administration" long enough. Borrowing money' at "iwenty-two and a half per cent." interest, ought to kid any administration.
ACCURACY and minuteness in descrip-
tion are good qualities in a reporter, and the greatest succcss in this line has recently been achieved by one of the reporters of an Evansville paper. In summing up the casualties of a steamboat disaster he mentions the loss of "one eyelash" by an officer of the boat. He fails, however, to tell how this loss was discovered, or what effect it had on the unfortunate man. ———

is much to be regretted that Hoosiers will not always conduct properfy when absent from heme. learn that the breaking open of the reservoir in Gibson county, which we noticed the other day, has been attended with serious consequences. The country around is much lower than the banks of the reservoir and when the opening increased the water rushed out in torrents and carried away fences, bridges and stock. One bridge, 144 feet, long, was swept away, besides other smaller ones. Hundreds of rails were borne down the resistless current arid one German lost fifty head of sheep. The people were filled with consternation, and would gladly have closed the breach, for though many damned the wild, rushing waters all the force they could muster could not, for a moment check its impetuosity.— The damage is almost incalculable, and farms that were once fertile and prolific, are now a swamp, and the miasma arising, from the ground so long-submerged is likely to produce tenfold more sickness than the reservoir ever did. =====
