THE HUCKSTER NVAUON.—Tho Journal yesterday morning, with startling head linns, recorded with unusual minuteness the singular robbing of a two-horse wagon and one hundred dollars worth of huckster's goods, from a public streot, and that up to Monday nothing had been heard of the missing goods or thieves.
All true, with tho single exception that the horses only strayed away Friday evening from tho front of Ray & Bailey's provision store, and were recovered next morning in the Market House lot, whore some persons had turned them Irv
PROBABLY FATAL ACCIDENT.—An explosion of a small boiler at the soda water manufactory of Milflel & Stark^ corner of Main and Thirteenth streets, occurrcd yesterday morning, by which Mr. Cristoph Stark was severely and probably fatally hurt. Mr. Stark was struck in the breast, receiving internal ins juries, the result of which it is impossible to predict. He was also severely cut and bruised in other parts nnd especially about the knee. The wounds were dressed by Dr. Read and at latest accounts his situation was considered very critical and recovery improbable. We did not li'arn further particulars of the disaster, but understand the boiler is a complete wreck, having fla,)^n off .in.every direction.
PROGRESS IN BAHY TALK.—Advanceimprovement, is the word in America.— This is understood everywhere, but a "great big ugly man" would naturally suppose that any kind of gibberish would do for a baby. This is not the case howaver. The old baby toe gingle of "this little went to.market," &c., has played out. Baby taste has grown more elevated and must be tickled with higher flights of poesy. The following which is probably authored by a young daddy is respectfully aubmitted to the consideration of now mamm&s "Dear little bare feet, dimple anil white, in your long night gown, wrapped for the night, come lot mo count all your queer little toes, pink as tho boart of a shell or a rose One is a baby that iiU in tho sun two is a baby and three fs a ntin four is a lilly with iunocent breast and five is a birdie asleep on hor nest."

Tiif. RKMA.KKAHT.K SUCCESS of the National Life Insurance Company of the United States of America is a fact worth while to chronicle. But with a paid ip cash capital of one million dollars to start on, and with such men as Jay Cooko and others of our foremost financiers as stockholders and managers, such results are only natural. CIRCUIT COURT.—-In tho Circuit Court Friday Anderson Steele was sentenced to a term of two years in, the penit^Mi^Ty for. horae-stelling. ...
Elijah Brown, a^goiored man, was put down for a similar term for stealing a caddy of tobacto from the steamer Comet. When asked by the Judge if he had anything to say why sentence should not bo passed upon ho said he had. "What is it?" asked Judge Patterson. "I am going to be married I" said the ebonyhued young man, as earnestly and with as straight a face as a comical negro can put on.The reason given was not Sufficient, and that marriage is postponed two years. A crusty old bachelor lawyer suggested to the court that in going to the peniten* tiary the prisoner had escaped a worse punishment
SOME NOYBLTIE#.—Our friend KHner of the Palace of Music, with an energj*. tact and industry that is deserving of tho beral patronage he is receiving, is ever cn the watch for anything new or novel in the music line, and is always among the first to bring West any such article. Yesterday he received an invoice*.of new goods, and among the articles are several worthy of mention. One of thes^Jta.a bird rgan intended to teach mocking birds to whistle a tune, and is said to have a surprising effect on tho vocal organs'of tl. irds.
Another novelty is whutMi calico A Glassino, handsome table ornament, put up in imitation of both grand and quare pianos. Back of the strips glass on which music is produced with a wooden hummer, are spaces for need la ushion«, toilet articles, jowelry, fec. TTpon'.a steel Harmonica minic is produced in a similar way.
Still another novelty is ft "'Nino* flute,' a combination of concertina, accordeon' and melodeon, difficult to describe, but in the hands of one accustomed to using it^ producing excellent music.- And„£St.An* other novelty is this same instrument mounted upon a stand and played in a manner similar to a melodeon or organ—i ery ingenious arrangement, iv*.
But the mcst charming AoTelty is a llarmonio-Flute," a complete organ ol" there and a half oetaves, in a rich ebony finished ca-e, making an exceedingly handsome parlor ornament. It is playfsd precisely liko an organ—In fact this is just what it is—with tho beautiful voice celt-ste attachment, but is so ingeniously constructed that when the performer gets tired, or runs out of tunes, or cannot play all, by simply turning a crank and pumping the bellows, music equal to the mo^. skillful player is produced. It plays in this way sixteen tunes—sacred and oparatic. It is an instrument of "ranch powder and very sweet toned.
The three last named instruments are manufactured at Busson's, lh« great music houso of Paris.Jand Mr. Kissner, we learn, is the first to bring them West They will be examined with great interest by musicians and all in search o'l valuable and acceptable Holiday prq|gnl|,'
Bendo these, at tho Palace ofMusic
the boys will be delighted at the*ex4ellcnt assortment of drums. There iarilso 011 tho road eight pianos, one of them a Steck Full Grand and another a Square Grand of the same manufacture, worth one thousand dollars.
J.
Mr. Kissner, with a determination to hereafter carry a stock consisting exclusively ot musical merchandise, will dispose Qt his. stock of Fancy Goods, of which ho has a large, varied and nttraeff live array of desirable and ndVel artiojlns, at coster evenJew than cost, t» the et$ck xriuit be closed out with the **nd of the holidays.
In conclusion we need scarcely suggest that in making your holiday purchases for young and old, Kissner's Palace of Music should by all means be visited.

Kxplosions genorally occur whon Lko.lamp u.firstlightod»wlUiout.Jt«iiujj.iiU ed, and !ato in the evoning, when the fluid if. nearly exhausted The reason Of this will be readily seen. In using imporfoct or adulterated kerosene, the space above tho lino of oil is always filled with vapor, and so long as it if warm and rising freely, no air can reach it, iuid it is safe. At bed time, when the family retire, the light is extinguished—tho lamp cools, Ja porlidri^fthc vapor is condcnsod th^s creates a partial vacuum in tho space, which ii'instanUy tilled with air. Tbe mixture is now more or less explosive and whon, tipon tho next evening,'tie lamp is lighted without replenishing tfto oi), as is often dono, an explosion liable to take place. It makes a vast difference whore oiio .coos ".-hopping," so far as comfort is concerned. At loast so say the ladies, and an Occasional experiment convinces us that they arc quite right.
Thero aro stores on Broadway that somo ladies will never onter because of tho coarsonoss and importunity of the clerks.
