THE affidavits of Messrs. Turner and Filbeck, contesting the election of Messrs". Hollinger and Stewart, are crowded out of this issue by a pressure of other mattor.

JA^IES HILTON, of this place, when returning from North Vernon, Monday evening about 8 o'clock, was halted and robbed of near $60. Mr. Hilton was also beaten and bruised badly by the highwaymen. The examination was set for last Monday, at 11 o'clock, and the defendant required to give bail in the sum of three hundred dollars for his appearance at that time, which he gave. When the time for trial came tho aforesaid Edwards was not on hand, whereupon his recognizance was declared forfeited, and the bond, with the proper certificates thereon, were promptly filed in tho Clerk's office.
HONEY CRKKK MEETING.—The meeting last night at tho Township House ia Honey Cr6ek was largely attended by the patriotic and Union-loving people of that Township. Col. K. VY. Thompson made one of the very best of speeches, in which be discussed tho political issues of the day in a plain and masterly manner. I. N.Pierce and the Hon. E. Hamilton also made short speeches. This Township will roll up an increased majority for Grant and Colfax and the Union.
PRAIRIETON MEETING.—A very large audience greeted Col. W. K. Edwards and Hon.-A. Lange at Prairieton on Monday evening. D. W. VOOKHEKS, in his speech ait Indianapolis, the other night, claimed td' owo his election to the votes of soldiers.— To the people of this city, such a .statement is simply a huge joke. It is "well known, here, that less than 'dhe twentieth of the soldiers of Terre Haute voted for Voorhees. It ia known, two, that tlyt socalled soldiers' organization which supported him and did'^M fcr^ufy toS him on various occasions, cou^rf "never Ue in-« duced to give thoir. public Mr. Voorhees shows little gratitude to the railroad.,gangs in Oweu county, and to his hordes of imported iriends, when he attributes his apparent election to the yot63 of soldiers.
We have been disposed to devote our available shot to nobler gamo than D. W V., pending the Presidental canvass, but his singularly facetious claim has been viewed in a serious light by a great majhy soldiers and they have requested us to repel what they regard as a slander upbn their militarv and politicBl record,

HON. F. M. MEREDITH, Director of the Southern Penitentiary, has returned from an official visit to that institution,, and gives us the following information T^e prison had paid all its expenses during the two years' term now about closihg, and has a balance in the treasury. The Directors will be able to make a better report than any of their predecessors have done. They can say to the legislature that the appropriation of $12,.r)00, intended to defray expenses ha3 not been^touched, and that there is no prcbability4nat it will be required. The sanitary condition of the prisoners is excellent and their deportment as good as could reasonably be expected. There are about 417 male and 12 female convicts', three of tihe latter having first been sent from-l^iis county. The term of one of the Directors, Wm. L. Ferrier. of Charlestown, will Expire with this year, and a successor v|ill be elected by the incoming Legislature-.
