THEt central idea of the Republican party i3 equality of rights and privileges. It laborc to-give all men the best chance in life which their native faculties will essible them to achieve. It desires to see all mon free, comfortable and contented and believing that these conditions cannot exist where two-thirds of the community have been in the habit of driving the other third with the lash to unpaid toil, and where an intense desire prevails to re-establish that barbarous system, without some effectual guard against it, they demand that so much protection as may ba afforded by the ballot shall be given to the race whoso liberties are so plainly threatened. AB slavery was the dominating spirit of the rebellion, so, un» der one disguise or another, it is the inspiration of the rebel party North and South to-day.
