from Kentucky has begun in Marion county, and quite a number have already arrived, pretending to be in quest of employment.

the "Republican meeting in

New Albany on Tuesday night some inis* creant or miscreants burled several stones into the crowd, one of them striking and injuring a young lady.

Fztitionb in bankruptcy have been filed in the Clerk's office of the United States District Court, of the below named parties

James Stuart, of Farke county. Cherwil Garner, of Bartholomew Co.

A.painful accident occurred at Centreville, on Wednesday, by the premature discharge of one of the guns used for firing a salute. Mr. John Macy, Recorder of "Union county, and Mr. Mangran Cregrill, both of 1 liberty, hud each a band blown off.

"Eckles' Barbecue, on the 3d, atQuincy, was the sceneot a Bull-run disaster to the Democracy. Their reports foot up Engagements, 2" wounded, 44 killed, 1. A few more such Democratic demonstrations and Owen will be redeemed.

A urani mass meeting will be held at Ellettsville, next Tuesday, September 15. The following distinguished speakers will be in attendance Col. R. W. Thompson,) Major W. W. Carter, Hon. James Hughes Gov. P. C. Dunning, Gon. M. C. Hunter, Hon. G, A. Buskirk.

On

the 4th inst. a company of F. B. in B. was organized at Quiucy, Owen county, near the scene of Judge Eckles' "old fashioned Democratic Barbecue," and amongst the boys were two who repudiated the "White Boys," having become utterly disgusted with the company they were keeping.

Harry "Woodsmall, of Gos

port, Chairman of Congressional Central Committee, is doing valient service in Owen by showing up the records of the "so-called Democracy," and exposing the rotten actions of the "Democratic carpetbag officers" of the covnty.

The latest Bensation that has come to our knowledge is a contemplated breach of marriage suit, to be brought by a young lady against a middle aged gentleman of thisjeity. Parties "highly respectable," and rich food promised for gossips. A very poor way, however, for a young lady to obtain for wounded affection.—Newsatisfaction

A

Logansport

dispatch of the 10th

says: The grand Democratic demonstration held here to-day, and advertised by flaming posters for weeks, was, in comparison with former Democratic efforts, a complete fizzle. The procession was just eight squares long. Doolittle and Hendricks spoke to a crowd of about two thousand persons. Doolittle came in competition with a bag piper who took his crowd, compelling the recreant to stop until the other wind instrument was removed, The Republicans here are all jubilant to night.

The third of September was a great day at Quincj'. The Democracy, headed by Judge Eckles, had for weeks been advertising for a stupendous barbecue, at that point., which was to bo the "biggest thing" in this part of the country during the campaign. And it was. Stirring posters had been posted all over the country, inviting the Democracy to come out. Judge Eckles spent a day or two at Goaport, making arrangements and looking after several thousand loaves of bread, wherewith to feed the hungry thousands, that were to be present.

The day came, and with it thousands of the unterrilied. Bands of music and companies of "White Boys," and citizens came, and there was a big crowd. The big speakers failed. Whisk}-, beer »nd ale flowed from various stands in quantities to suit purchasers, and in violation of law. Large tables wero weighed down with food for all. But there were no regulations by which tha thousands were to be fed—no marshals or othor officers to keep the peace, mid at dinner time a grand rush was made for the tables. The confusion was heightened by a drenching rain and the raging whisky. Pandemonium seemed to have been turned loose in "Utah," as the people in that vicinity call Eckles' neighborhood.

Shooting, yelling, cursing, fighting, running, cries of women and children, and useless shouting of persons endeavoring to preserve order, was kept up until a panic seized the vast assemblage, and a general rush for the railroad set in. Speaking was impossible as nobody without a voice of thunder could have been heard.

The loss in the engagement is not exactly known, bnt we have heard it estimated as follows: 500 shot in the neck, 22 distinct fights, 44 wounded and 1 killed.

The Democracy are generally disgusted, but as they can't charge their disaster to the Radicals they acknowledge that it was a Democratic free fight, and a disgrace to the party. Such was the great Democratic Barbecue of Quincy. Minus the killing, we hope they will have another just like it in this county, after which, perhaps, the more respectable portion of the party may see the error of their way and vote for Grant and Colfax.—Gosport

Alike indications of approval greeted the Major at Annapolif, on Monday night. The faithful of old Penn turned out in large numbers filling the M. J£. Church well nigh to the full extent of its capacity.—Rockville

A meeting was appointed for Tuesday, September 1st, at Gray's Tanyard, in Polk township, by the Republicans.— Judge Hughes, Judge Buskirk, the Glee Club, the "Fighting Boys in Blue" and a number of citizens left Bloomington for the meeting on the morning of the day designated. It is estimated that there were near 1,200 persons on the ground— a larger meeting than was ever before held by Republicans in the Democratic township of Polk.

Our Republican friends had been on the ground but a short time, until it was made evident that a number of Democrats had come to the meeting armed, and full of bad whisky, with a determination to drive the Union men from the ground. Their first demonstration, after a considerable amount of threatening had been indulged in, was the wresting of a Upion flag from an individual who held it, tearing it into ribbons and stampins it in the dust!

A company of' Fighting Boys in Blue" were on the gronnd, and it was with the utmost difficulty they could be restrained from giving these guerillas the threshing they so richly deserved.

One of the Republicans, who dared to cheer for Grant and Colfax, wa9 knocked from his horse, with a club in the hands of a Seymour and Blair Democrat, and while lying stunned, beneath his animal's feet, was kicked and beaten so brutally that he has ever since been confined to his bed.

This is the second meeting at which ttie Republicans have been grossly insulted, in Monroe county—a third attempt may be resented by the Union men.

This result can be traced almost directly to the inflammatory articles that have recently appeared in the Bloomington

Democrat.—Bloomington Progress.

numbers to listen to the speeches of lajor W. W. Carter on the political issues of the day. On Saturday night last an immense concourse of people greeted him at our Court House, and listened to him with marked attention In a speech of over an hour, oftimes manifesting their approval with the wildest applause.

Major Carter was followed by J. H. Cheadle, Esq., of Newport, in a few brief, earnest and pointed remarks.

Republican.

It's no use talking any more this is the biggest thing of the season—it's the finest political display I ever witnessed in this part of the State," exclaimed an old citizen of New Albany last night, while speaking to us about the immense Republican meeting held at the Republican headquarters, on Pearl street. We have attended meetings where there were more devices in the way of display, but never have we attended a political meeting where there was more genuine enthusiasm manifested, or where there was a showing of more earnestness and zeal. In these particulars, as well as Jn regard to numbers, the meeting last night exceeded any night meeting that has been held in New Albany since I860, by either party.—New

sounds a note of warning thus: Prom what I can see passing about through Gibson County, the Democrats are importing voters from Kentucky to carry the State election. I have been informed that some of the Democrats have boasted that they have already imported voters enough to carry Gibson County by an increased maj*ty. I have also been informed that they intend to import ten thousand voters from Kentucky into the State. Are the rebels and scallawags that fought four years to destroy this Government, to be brought over from Kentucky to elect our officers and break our laws This is a question we are called upon to decide. Shall the free men of Indiana elect their own officers and make their own laws, or will they hand this small job over to the rebels of Kentucky Let us meet the issue squarely, and decide this question for ourselves, for our children, for our country, and in view of our responsibility to our God.

PILLS, so celebrated many years ago in Paris, for the relief of female irregularties, and so notorious tor their criminal employment in the practice of abortion, are now offered for sale for the first time in America. They have been kept in comparative obscurity, from the fact that the originator Dr. Velpean, is a physician in Paris, of great wealth and strict aoBScientions principles, and has withheld them from general nse, lest they should be employed for unlawful purposes. In oTercoming female obstructions, they seem to be truly omnipotent, bursting open the flood gates from whatever cause may have stopped them but they are .offered to the public only for legitimate use, and all agents are forbidden to sell them when It is understood that the object is unlawful.

Ladies can pocured a box, sealed ftom the ej of the curious, by enclosing one dollar, and six postage stamps to M, W, MAOOMBER, Qeneral Agent for the United States and Oanadas, at Albany, N. Y., or to any authorized A sent. Sold oy all Dtnggists in Terr- Haute. j7rlwly
