JtemocraUc legro 8a*^a«e. uffflChe Journal republishes StTMHXit'3 re" cent letter "to a citizen of Norfolk Virginia," and comments thereon as follows:
There are some radicals in this pari of the country who profess the bitterest Opposition to negro suffrage and negro office holding. If uiey are honest the above ought to prove an eye-dpener I "We think it very likely there are mainy "radicals in this part of the country who profesa the bitterest opposition to negro suffrage and negro office holding,' but we have failed to find, any Democrat or Democratic paper "in this part of the country" that "professes" tho slightest "opposition to negro suffrage," provided only that the voting negro will vote the Democratic ticket. Indeed the Democratic press of the entire country is fall of stilted eulogy of "the brave, honest patriotic negroes" of Mississippi, Georgia, and other Southern States where they have been hogged into full fellowship with the Democratic party, have beea nominated by Democratic Conventions and elected to office by white Democratic votes. It is too late for tho Journal to raise the howl of "negro suffrage." ijtS party is fully committed to it. No other party ever showed such wild extravagance of delirious joy as has been shown by tie Democracy over the "honest Democratic negroes" of the South I Negroes who would not vote with the Democracy have been maltreated in every way and often murdered, the Democratic press approving and applauding. Negro as who could be seduced into voting with the rebel Democracy have been toasted, feasted, petted, carried on, .iDomocr^tic shoulders in triumphal processions and eulogized with all the "pet namen" in the dictionary, the entire Democratic press of the country shouting approval. It is,' therefore, quite too late for any Democratic paper to put in a protest against negro suffrage any further than to object to ,'jBepublioan niggers" being permitted to-vote**
DKMOCRATIC consistency finds a beautiful illustration in the conduct of the Vigq Democratic Nominating Convention as compared with the practice of the same party in Georgia. Here the stern maxim: "No Irish need apply," was rigidly enforced. The representative of the Irish, element—the party's right bower— rwas ruthlessly slaughtered. If every native Democrat in the Convention had solemnly sworn, in the presence of Al* mighty God, that he would not vote, nor give his influence, for any man, for any office in the gift of the people, unless he was an American-born citizen, in favor of Americans ruling America, the proscription could not have been more com*
P1^ :uib^qed7^«'« Turning to Georgia, we find that the same charmingly consistent party at the recont election, in several counties put, up negroes for office, by regular nomination, and in. one or two instances elected them, while in other districts they conveyed'them to the polls in carriages and buggies, and "even conveyed litem on their shoulders when they voted the Democratic ticket"
Perhaps the Irish will Still continue to be driven in the traces of a party which proscribes them utterly and ruthlessly while it nominates and elects Negroes to office, turns out with buggies to convey Negroes to the polls or foTms in triumphal profession to bear the Democratic Negroes on sturdy White Democratic shoulders, through the streets to and from the voting plaie«

This
is the great enigma, and if the financial geniuS of the Express
will turn his atten
tion to its solution he will confer a real benefit on his countrymen, &c—Journal. "The debt of the Slate of Indiana,'' which Democratic mal-administration. forgery and other species of rascality had piled up to the enormous altitudo of nearly $12,000,000, but which Republican economy and good management have reduced to "a mere drop in the backet," and will soon entirely extinguish, is not an interesting subject to tho Journal.— Th|s is not to be wondered at. So dis» graceful has been the conduct dl Democratic financial officers in this State that no membe.r or organ of the party can contemplate the subject with equanimity. Tho credit and good name of the State were reduced to the lowest ebb when the Democratic thieving grip was loosed from the remnant of the children's school fund, and a Republican administration b£gan the great work of restoring the credit by honorably paying the debt of the State. From this subject, so eternally disgraceful Jto the Democracy, and so honorable to the Republican party, the Journal turns in deeply intensified disgust, and utters its oft-repeated wail of "Republican extravagance" in national affafrs.
