SSe tbo proweutjon.ln behalf of the people of the United States, of. Andrew Johnson, and to sacureJiia conviction and displacement. The Republican party never could have made such W and rapid strides toward Hbegood time comine" but for the presence in It of the element onoe represented by such men as the gloriously departed heroes, Lyons, Lander, and Baker, of Oregonjand still represented, thank Heaven, by glorious old Ben. Wade, Burlineame. and Ben. Butler I would not, of course, be understood to assign, in tho scale of qualities, theflrst rank to pluck and persistence, but to state that, without tbom, the wisdom, learning, experience and good intentions of the Republican party would have been insuttucient for tbe attainment of the proud, powerful, and useful position which it now holds
It is thought that one of tne first matter* which will engage the attention of Congress, after the impeachment trial over will bo the admission of Colorado which ought to have been attended to, lone ago, and would have boon butf. the meanness of one Or two disappointed candidates for Senatorial honors. If tho Impeachment should result in tho acquittal of Andrew Johnson, for the want of two votes—a result, however, which I do not anticipate—it will be duo to the mistaken policy and criminal weakness of Congress in not having long aeo admitted this additional Republican State^
The Senators elect, Hon. Jerome 13. Chaffee and Hon. John Evans, are both sterling men. and thorough Republicans. They have no sympathy with either treason or Copperheadism. When Colorado does become a State, it will be due largely to the judicious and persistont efforts of her present able delegate and represents, live elect, Hon. George M. Cbi.oott, one of tha mo?t prepossessing and influential young men of the present Congress.
It is thought an attempt will be made, during tbe administration of Mr. Wade, to equaliz# the salaries of the male, and female clerks in the Departments, also to divide the minor offices fairly between the tvo sexes- Mrs. Julia Archibald Hofmes, formerly of Kansas and 2*aw Mexico, but now the Washington correspondent of the New York Revolution, (Mra, Elizabeth Cadv .Stanton's papar,) Is I understand, the head nna front of .this movement. She is a woman of fine intellectual powers, energetic, young and cf unusually attractive presence. Sooner or later she will carry her point.
The ra-nomlnation for Congress in Indiana, of Hon. G. W. Julian, General J. P. C. Shanks, and G. S. Orth, gives great satisfaction to Republicans here, as it shows that the people unmistakably imtala tbe impeachment. Thus it will be seen that the men who have voted Impeachment all the time will be triumphantly tostaiatd by the people. What makes the endorsement more emphatic is tbe fact that the members remain ia their (eats attending to their Congressional duties, and do Qotxu^L homs hunting for a rt-aoBlaatioft.' Wabajie.
