A gr**t deal of pi, wind and fury, bee been •peat over It, and It** *deoe*Um have finally achieved a decided triumph, Although from the beginning we b»T* never felt that the mUety of ilia country of the perpetolty of the Unloo depeuded open it'a peasage or It's rejection, it hat opened the slaie«a of theabolltlon e*sa-pool, and haa been the tbeme of Uia greatest nations! latere**, sloce tbe agitation of iheCompfdtnfceof W50. Nebraska.

R'» shall be rejoiead when this subject finally disposed of, if for no other reason than to relieve the Stale Journal, and other whif print#, from the spasm* ted thro** into which it iashea thoee weak concerns. It»« melancholy to read their spasmed* ie efforts at Urttly-itm, and to eae with what violent contortions they make ugly face# at Douglas am) ether*. They adopt ail the cant of the Tabernacle, without it'a ability, or it'a force. The editor of the Journal haa ridden the Maine Law nearly to death, for hia own personal and political pnrpoeea, and now he ia aatride of Nebraska, booted and spurred, maty aword in band, in the trne apirit of Praise-Ood-barebones of oid. Nearly every hobby under the nun haa served him some purpose— or aome purpoee waa attempted—from Governor W right'* ubestnuls dawn to free- aoil but, aome' how or other,, the Whig party, under hla lead, doee liet aeeui to keep from getting imollrr. SJ~ The Circuit Court of thle County which haa been In session for the paat week, haa wilueesed one of the moot esclUug criminal proeecutiona which ha* probably ever occurred In our place.— The defendant an old and quite an Influential and wealthy citizen of the aoutheru pait of the county, William T. J. Slisltuck, wa* arraigned before the Court upon au indictment for Seduction, tinder promise of MaWlage, and for the ollenca of administering medicine (o the person seduced, with view lo produce abortion. The teatitnouy upon the part of the Stale implicated a physician who atteudad the woman, during her delivery, snd^lho Court contrived It uecoaeary to commit the party ImpllcHted, for murder the child, according to the testimony of the prosecuting witness, being born alive, ami coon after placed In a vessel where It expired. The |erty committed wa* afterward* admitted to ball for hla appearance from day to day, Ui the aum of $6,00(1. Un the third morulng ol the trial the evidence ou the part of the Stale having clueetl, ihecfrfeudaill, Mr, Shut luck, evidently fearlul of the iaaue of Ibe cuae, suddenly decamped, and hua alnce become nan com*t\bus in steampo.— I Hi bail in the 8eduction suit, and also in the other pending agatnat him, for administering medicines with a view to produce abortion ($.'00 In each case,) waa accordingly forfeited. Upon the whole It wae a caae of the moat revolting character and the repetition of which we hope may not eoon agtiiu occur In 9B{ County.

Kenntor Pettit.

The editor of the Wabaih Exprctt, charges that Senator Prrry? was a free-soilor lu l&43t-ead that he uow misrepresents the people of Indiana in his action ou the Nebraska and Kansas Bill. We do ny that Mr. Pettit ever was a free-soller and that his position now ou the Nebraska bill is not accordance with tlie democracy of Indiana, together and with a large number of whlgs, is totally absurd without any foundation In fact Mr. Pettit doea not desire or mean to adapt his course, whilst Senator, to suit the desires of free-soilers or thoee of like tendency.

O* The Washington Htar whleh aeeins to gather up the undercurrent news about the Nallonsl qspiUl with great Industry, givepa a rumor prevalent lu pclltteai circles, that the Whig Senators recently held a caucus, at which all were present but four, and that a resolution offered by Senator Toombs, of Georgia, denouncing the course of the National Intelligencer In reference to tlie Nebraska bill, waa adopted unanimously. It further states that the same Senator declared the Whig parly of the South dissolved, or in a state of dlseolullou.

The same paper gives alao a current rumor, that in a secret session a young Senator proposed to have tlie editor of the New York Herald and the editors of several oilier papers cited to appear be* fore the Senate and show cause why they should not be punished for publishing Senatorial secrets the particular c«m referred to being the publication of the Gadedea treaty before it had been officially promulgated. The proposition was rejected by Senators of more experienced wisdom.

Mr- Douglas—It will not do to retract the charge of falsification. Having tuade false statements in regard to me and my motives, I have given him two opportunities to withdraw it, and he has not had the manliness to do it.

Mr. Chaee explained, and said he did not eon* sider the ambition to be President an unworthy ob», and reference was not made In any offensive sense towards the Senator.

Mr. Weller defended Mr. Chase from the charge of corruption. Mr. Chase said he was party to no arrangement, and none existed. There were three parties In th© Legislature—Whigs, Freesoiler# and old line Democrats, and he received the vote* of all the old line Democrats and Democratic FreosoHers, he received no Whig votes-
