Deficit this year. Our city is not yet the Pvrkopolis ofludi sn.t, Madison as yet, claiming that title, but our facilitins for packing at.d constant increste in the number of purchasers we confidently predict will soon place TerreHaute above all competition from her sister cities of the State. The number packed this year at Greeoastle, and the increase at Indianapolis, account for the falling off at this place the present season.

But I assure the people of Oregon, through you. air. that it aball be my only aim and labor as their governor, to aocure to them the largest liberties, and all the right of which American citizens claim the fullest exerci«e. Liberia.

'The New Yoik Jouruaf of Cfommel-ce has intelligence from Liberia of tbe latest date. .• i:v, tv-

Tbe Liberia^ Herald aiairs thtt their communication from England is monthly, and the aieamers arrive regularly. The first ship of another British line of, ateamer^ ia expected in October next.

Prince Boyer, of Tradetown, had met President Roberts on a foreign vessel at Tradetown, and promised to obey the Liberian laws aud give speedy evidence of tbe sincerity of hia regret for past injuries. In fulfilment of this pledge, he had given information of the presence of a polacca Spanish vcsael, tempting him to trade in slaves. The (act that he first received tbe Kpauiard'a doubloons, and then frightened him away before the Liberian authorities could intercept him, suggests a doubt whether it was the act of a penitent, or a scheme of plunder and roguery. The editor of the Liberia Herald seems to have a moat earnest desire to aee Boyer, Grondo, and Geo. Cain, three turbulent natives, humbled or punish jd and urges the necessity of this for the peace and prosperity of the country^****^-'I,a

We find several notices of the last election, and transfer the results as follows: I President—J. J. Roberts.

Vice Presidenl-~&. A. Benson. Quite a trade is growing up in the Republic, and many make money in trafficking with the natives. Among the items ot news we find the following "A ready market will be found in Liberia for six or more vessels, well built, coppered, cop|fer fastened, and drawing alight draA of water. Their burthen should be from 60 to 100 tons.

The natives residing within our jurisdiction are not inclined to revive the slave trade. On* exception, perhaps, may be made, and that is Prince Manna, of the Gallinas. He is capable of committing any act, however dishonorable, if there is a possibility of his being a gainer in the end. 'VJ nwt

When new* was "received at Washington of the perilous position of the steamship San Francisco, having on board nearly a thousand U. S. troops, the Secretary of the Navy telegraphed to the commanding officers of the Navy Yard at New York to charier a vessel to go in search of h«r. Those officers immediately went to Capt. Vanderbilt, owner of tho North Star, and endeavored to procure her, but wa* refused. After vainly endeavoring to procure some other vessel, they again asked Vanderbilt for bis ship, but were again refused. This man Vanderbilt, bloated with wealth, it will bo remembered, aailed all around Europe with this ateamer. oo a "pleasure excursion

Orrsex^or Acnrroa or STATE. Indianapolis, Dee. 19, 1863.

To TowNsmr -ASSESSOSS~De*r Sir:— (n taking down your assessment according to statement No. 2,?for Taxation, as required by Sec. 23 of the Assessment law, you wiQ at tbe same time be careful to get the statements demanded by Section 73 of same law.

The cfject of Sec. S3 is to gel the amount of Taxable property which may boon band on the firat day of January, while the design of Section 73, is to get at the entire products of the State for one year, and in order to get at these facte, it may be proper for you to state to Fanners and Mechanics, that the object of this Agricultural atatement is not for the purpose of Taxation, but for statist! cat Information, so our people at home and our neighbors abroad, may see our Agricultural progress.

The columns ruled on Statement No. 2 are for the number aud value of Taxable property, oo hand on the 1st of January the column* designed for statistical information were omitted by mistake to be ruled.

You can, however, find room, just at the right of the printed articles named, and to the left of the ruled columns, for tbe number and value of tbe entire products for the year previous to the first of January, 1855. It is very important that the entire products of the State, both Mechanical and Agricultural, should be returned by the Assessors. who alone can obtain such valuable information. Hence, we hope you wilt pay particular attention to the suggestions herein contained. Very respecfully, your obedient servants ijJOHN P. DUNN, .»«•*"* Auditor of Slate.

A "WINDFALL" WOHTH HAVING.—It will be remembered that there was quite a sensation among the universal Jennings family of America a few years ago, in endeavoring to find heirs to an immense estate in England. known as the Jenmng'j Estate.'*— Among the many claimants of heirship was a Mr. Hector Jennings, of Sandusky City. Ohio, who appears in the end to inherit this immense property. The Sandusky ''Register" says that Mr Jennings has received tetters from his attorney who has just returned from England, informing him ot the oomplete validity of his claim as one of two heirs to this immense estate, which amounts to over sixty millions of dollar»/ tie has been a resident of Sandusky city seventeen years.
