Hy a second blow bin head was nearly cut in twain. He had evidently died without a struggle. Buzzard was brought in to the body, and acknowledged he had killed Mates. He had previousiv told Mrs. G., that be bad killed Bates because he had worked long enough for him—and wished to work for hiatamily. Buzzard had been returned from the Lunatic Asylum, as incnrabls, several years ago, but was allowed to run at large here, being considereed harmless, i***
Mr. Geo. Bates was in the prime of life. He had been for many years Keeper of the Poor House. He w»i one of our wealthiest citizens, and had this season erected two large business houses, and waa making preparations for still more extensive building next season. His death may be regarded, as a publio loss, tie left a wife and cbil dren. Buzzard is at present oonfmed in' jail.—Ecannille
