Mr. PETTIT. Mr. PrssidenL there are four reasons why 1 shall vote against this bill. 1. Because it commits Congress to the pow§? gf incorporation—ft dangerous end ami* Democratic doctrine, 2. Because it commits us to a wild system of internal improvement, denied by our crced. orid dangerous to the wholeseme acliion of the State and Federal Government*. 3. Because it burdens and clogs the incoming Administration with a load that ought not. against its will, to carry. If this bity passes, Mr. Pierce may well aik to be (toved from his friend*. 4. The ship stood the test nobly, her engines making 6J revolutions per minute with tho utmost regularity. Capt. On approaching the month of tho Potomuo th« weather became so thick thai the pilot declined taking her any further, and tho ship oame to anchor at 8 o'clock on Saturday morning. The engines had then been in operation ?3 hours, without being stopped for a moment or requiring the slightest adjustment. Only one fireman was on duty at lime during the whole trip. The consumption of ooal was under five tons to the twenty-four hours.

Capt. Sands, ol the Navy, was on board, and is highly pleased with the result, says he would willingly go to Australia in her.

No case will be put under treatment where there is no prospect of a cure. In all cases where a cure is promised, the Patient complying with directions, and relief is noi obtained, uo charge will be made for medical attendance.

The Lafayette I ofirmary has been open about one year, during which time there has beeu treated some three huudered cases, many of whom have been afflicted from one to ten years. Dr. Fonda invites all who may wish information couceruing his success in practice, to call ou those who have been treated by him. By doing this the facts uvay be obtained, and noue misled. As 1 have from twenty to fifty cases uuder treatment all the time, tho most satisfactory knowleJge concerning my cures in Eye cases, is to aee the patients themselves. This course wilt give full satisfaction, as any person_wlio has been afflicted can fully appreciate the condiuon of those suffering.
