Franklin Pierce.
We hardly know whether to be amused or gti ed at some of the ,absurd charges made by some the Whig papers against Franklin Pierce. We are amused at the ridiculous absurdity of the charge«, and grieved that public sentiment will ftfr a moment sustain those who so unscrupulously manufacture false accusations against so pure a man.
There lives not in tfii* Union, a Statesman, or man in any public capacity, of principle more cor rect, of mind more pure, of heart more sincere, and of character mpre unblemishable than Frank lin Pierce. Ilia talents are of a very high order, fully equal to the duties of the position for which he is a candidate. His sentiments are liberal and generous his private life is spotless and pure be yond all suspicion .*—he is not ambitious of office —had he been* he might have passed his whole life, from maturity until the present hour, in public office.
He has peculiar qualifications for the ofBed of President he is uncommitted to any factions or clique, or sectional interest he will go into the Presidential chair untrammeled and he has the in dependence of spirit to retain his freedom: he is a man of decision, of firmness, of unswerving ad herence to the right and the true Lis administration will prove, we have no doubt, a judicious, prosperous, and happy one we shall feel honored in aiding to place such a man in the highest office in the gift of the nation.
No man ever presented by the democrats as a candidate for President, has offered to the Whigs so impracticable a mark to shoot at the arrows of detraction fall harmless at his feet, the shafts of malignity re
and of truth with which he is girded: not. one of the charges made against him lias been sustained or can be sustained by the merest apology of evidence he stands before us, a candidate for our suffrages, every way entitled to our confidence. He wili be elected, most triumphantly elected, and then few and far between will appear those who will acknowledge they ever opposed him.
Judge of the Sixth Judicial Circuit
We publish in this number Judge Eckel's Circular, and bespeak for it a ca*reful perusal. While his competitor has been stumping it through the District, the Judge has been quietly attending to the duties of bis office, believing that Judicial station should not be sought after by the usual course of electioneering. Not until his competitor had issued a circular, and spread it broad cast over the District, in which he assumes the false and untenable position that the question "OUOIIT FAITTY ROUTIOS TO EKTER ISXO THE JUDICIARY" is at issue in the election, and invokes the people to decido it in his favor on tho ground that he is opposed to a party Judiciary, and by inference his competitor in favor of it did Judge Eckels consider it his duty to appeal to the public, and in doing so, has strictly confined himself to the question at issue, and having demonstrated tho fallacy and absurdity of his adversaries argument, is willing to leave it to the voters to decido who shall be elected to this responsible and laborious office. Wo shall not part with Mr. Hughes so easily wo know him too well, and cannot, consistently with our duty as public journalists, permil him to palm himself off upon the voters of the Sixth Judicial District, as a man suitable to the grave and serious rc5Pon8'k'''t'C8 Circuit Bench. Mr. Ilughes has been known in tho limited circle of his acquaintance, as an ultra, hot hoadod, democratic politician, but never had sufficient weight of character to command the confidenco, or to secure the respect of his party., In 1846 he tried to obtain tho nomination of the democratic caucus for Judge of tho ftionroe C«r cuit, against Judgo McDonald but tho Democrats would not touch him, and the consequence was, he received TWO VOTES only, for the office. Subsequently he was a candidate for Prosecuting Attorney •of tho Monroe Circuit, and although it was a democratic district, ho was beaten over a thousand votes by
PATTMR
Mr. Hester. In tho winter of '48 and 9 he was a candidate fur Secretary of State, but the party again refused to endorse him, and he was consequently defeated. At tho ensueing session of the Legislature he was a candidate for Agent of State, with the same bad success: last winter ho was a candidate before tho Democratic State Convention for District Elector, but was again defeated. How far his present position may bo traceable to his bad success in his aspirations, for office, is not for us to dotermino, but we shrewdly suspect that if tho members of the Convention had duly appreciated his groat worth and conferred upon l.im tho office he aiked for. that of district Elector, that tho world would never have heard of his opposition to the nomination of Judges by Conventions, and he would have been spared the necessity of publishing his own fitness for a station he haa not the least pretension to tho requisite character, creditably »o fill. We were a member of the State Convention with Mr. Hughes, and we know that he never opened his mouth against tho policy or propriety of nominating Judges there: it was not until after his own pretensions had been set aside, and he had been in communication with certain Whig lawyers, that he conceived the d«M?n of attacking his party through their nominations for the Judiciary, and of announcing himself as a candidate for the office of Circuit Judge: we know that he waa in correspondence with certain Whig lawyers of thia place before his announcement, and he foolishly supposes that It is in their power to transfer to him the Whig vote of this part of tho District. Such a thing cannot be done there I# too much intelligence, too much self-respect and sense of propriety among the tnasa of the Whigs to permit such a scheme to be successfully carried out: Hke those who were willing to profit by Arnold's treachery, they love the treason, but loathe and despise the traitor. One of the first thing* done by this
candidate for Judicial honors, was to annoonce himself in speech at Whig ratification meeting In thia Town, and the next thing waa to write and publish a scurriSons anonymoua article, of this paper1 Would he not make a Arras a Judge,

.. SIIAKE.lt SAItSAPARI LL Av(IS QOAST BOTTtSS,) For Purifying the Blood and Curing Diseases.
Read the. following Certificate^ 'y CiaaKKATt, Feb. 7th, 1851. This is to certify that my sister, Mary C. Bellman, was attacked with a disease In the hit), more than three years agtf, which rendered her uttterly nelplesaahatshe was compelled to keep .her bed. All hopes of her recovery were •despaired of. Some %f the most eminent nhysi^iaus In Coringiutou rnd Cincinnati attended her all of whom declared her case a hopeless ono. Passing by Dr. Howe's depot an idea suggested itself, that to try oue bottle of his Shaker Seraapariila could do no harm. Accordingly I purchased one bottle' and before its contents were entirely used she received benefit. I was induced to try another, and another before the lost was used she bad nearly recoir •eted. Now she hss no pain, can walk and has the entire use of her limits. To Howe's Shaker Sarsaparilla we attribute this effective cure. It is but a few months since Bhe commenced taking it.: (Signed,) ••*.*. J. C. BELMAN. (Cincinnati Daily Commercial.
Remember'this wonderful and astoulshiug euro waa affected bj the use of three bottles only. DR. S. D. HOWE'S Shaker Sarsdparilla, the great Spripg andSum- ... mer Medicine,
It purifies the blood aad prevents Disesse! It is the only Sarsaparilla that acts upou Hie Liver, Kidnoys and Blood ai the same time, which renders it altogether more valuablo to every oue particularly Femnlas.
Dr.*Mussey, Professor (p the Ohio Medical College, says the Shaker preparations aro truly valuable, and recommends them to the public.
No MKHCOHY—no MINKSAL—no Poisoxotf# Dace In the Shaker Sarsapartila. Remember it is warranted to be purely and entirely vegetable, and as a Female and Fafnily medicine it has up equal.
Be sure you enquire for S, D. Howe'#' Shaker Sarsaparilla, and take no other. **. Quart bottles $1.00 per bottle, or six for $5.
