Coming from such a qu arter, the announcement will go to confirm the people in the policy which they hare always adhered to of never putting in power two whig administrations intycccssion. Wash. Union, -d
YAJTKEE POODLE.—At son rise on Sunday morning the dsy on which the ever glorious Fourth unluckily fell this year, the chime of bells in the Catholic Cathedral tower rang out Yankee Doodle in beautiful style. It was novel to us in some respects—because it was Sunday morning, and it seemed so odd to hear this national air thus consecrated by Sabbath sanctity—and because this was the first musical performance in a church steeple that we ever heard in the weal.—Cin. Nonpariel.
Years are Ihe aum of hours?* Vain is it at wide intervals to »ay,4I'll aave this year,' if at each narrow interval you do not say, 'I'llsave this hour.'
The New York Mirror, whig, in noticing the letters of the Democratic nominees, accepting the nomination, says: 'They are both open, manly expressions, every way worthy the chosen leaders of a powerful and intelligent party.*The writers of such letters will have to be beaten by other weapons than lies and vulgarity.' &&'>**•

showed yesterday.that fbe whig administration OlllUI 11 It* MJ& voo» through the first three years of its existence has speot a larger sum of moti^y yearly to carry on the government in time of peace than Mr. Polk'* admioistrafiioQ spr at yearly with the Mexican war on its hand*. This surely a fact that must set the people Co thinking whether whig executive rule doe* not cost more than it is worth, it must, as we should judge, bring men's minds to the conclu •ion, that to elect another whig President will not be good economy. This conclusion will be strengthened in the minds of those who remember that such leading whig journals as the New York Express ba*e stated very plainly that if Gen. Scott comes in, he must bring with him a Galphin tail once to corrupt and to control bis administration. '^Iliad a democratic journal made this stateineDt. lt might be set down as a partisan slander. But why should the Express which supports Scott, mske the statement it it be nut the truth?
AX Ass.*'—Mr. Greely speaking of
the non-intervention resolutions adopted by the two national conventions, says that the one adopted by the democrats wa* drawn by a "polltcian," and that adopted by the whigs was drawn by "an assThis parallel will run justly between the two conventions throughout!
