Democrats, Orgastic.
•In tiirtft of pMCt prapara for warf is ft wi«e maxim The democratic ptny to Indiana is strong, but not iovisoible. In their fmociad atreoftb and security may We bidden ih« eiameata of weakness. United, lb«o. (here t# no danger of defeat, and to make the whole democratic courre available, organtr.slton and discipline is necessary. For that purpose l«?t democratic associations be formed in every town aud township in tbe Stale let stated weekly meetings be be'.d: let tbe name of every democrat in tbe township be enrolled on a book prepared for tbe purpose, and let lists be sent either to one of your Senators or one of the democratic representatives in Congress, a* yoo may choose, and they will furnish you speeches and documents. As these speeches cost from 60 els to $1 per thousand, let a small amount in each case be forwarded with tbe list and tbe document will be forth coming. Your Senators ond Representstires are doing tbeir duty, bat to furnish documents to alt the democrat* in Indiana would exhaust tbeir per diem.
From these associations more eflVctire and minuie organizations may be perfected through school districts. Tbe name of every democrat will be enrolled and tbe whole strength of tbe party may be polled. If this system is fully adopted, we shall increase the democratic vote of Indiana by tboustndf. But to make this organization perfect it must be commenced in time. Let tbe democrats at the seat of justice of each county, first commence, and the example will be followed by tbe eountry villages and rural townships. We have a State ticket from Governor down to Superintendent of tbe Public institutions, which should command the support of every democrat in the Stale. The Democratic National Convention will nominate a lieket for President and Vice- President equsllj as acceptable. We shall endeavor to do our duty, and if we have tbq hearty co-operation of the democrstio press of the State, as we feel certain we shsll have, and the auxilsry aid of tbe democratic Associations and Clubs, we shall roll up in October and November such majorities as will astonish the most sanguine democrat in the State.—State Senltnel.

Death of Bishop Bm4di»g.
At hali-pati 1*2 o'clock yesterday, the senior bishop of tbe Methodist Episcopal church, tbe Rev. Dr. Hedding. died of dropsy at Pooghkeepsie, after along and painful illness, ^re than a year ago be became aware that be was a victim of the dtaeasf under which hie has finally fallen, aad during the last month or two his end was constantly fell to be rapidly approaching .. TJ,'
Bishop lleddine was tbe Senior of tie five bisbops of tne Methodist church, and was revered in proportion to bis years. He hits been distinguished over half a century for bis purity and simplicity of character, bis extensive learning, and tbe fervent admiration which be inspired in all those who came within the sphere of bis personal or pastoral influence. His loss will not be mourned alooe by those who belonged to tbe religious denomination of which he was, &t once, a pillar and an ornament In the last Christian Advocate, appeared an account of a visit paid to the bishop by tbe editor of that journal, in company with Bishop Janes, from which we extract the following passage, which will now be read with solemn interest: 'Fifty-two years ago last December,* aaid the bishop, *1 gave up my all to God, and 1 have nev er taken back tbe gift. I have been a most fallible creature and have committed many involuntary offences, but have never wilfully departed from God. 1 have always needed the atonement of Cbrist, and have trusted in tbat alone for the for giveness of all my short-comings. I feel that I can sing, with Mr. Wesley, 'I the chief of sinners an,
But Jesos died for me.*
used to wonder how it could be ibat Christ could have mercy upon such a poor, miserable sinner as I am. and save me. There was a kind of mist over the subject but within a few days all this mist has been cleared away. 1 now see such good, such glory, su«h power—such power'—repeating the word w^h great emphasis—'in the Redeemer, that there is now no difficulty in it!' VVe remarked,'Your spiritual vision is now clear.'— 'Yes,' responded he, 'it is ail plaiu now.' During the conversation be remarked: 'Since this dreadful disease struck me, more than a year ago, 1 have not had one really dark hour, or one pang of guilt.'
We retired from the room with the strongest feelings of admiration of the humility, the deep and unaffected piety and the gigantic intellectual strength of our venerable senior bishop. We have known and admired his real greatness from the period of our first acquaintance with him. But if he was great in the field of action, he is still greater in the hour of suffering, and in the prospect of death.
N. Y. Pott.

President of tbe State University. Mestrt. Kditort —The proceedings of theTrustees of the Slalo University show that they have elected John H. Lathrop President of that institution. Professor Lathrop would not awaken the joalou jy of any religious denomination, for he i* not minister of the Gospel, He i* purely teacher, and his ambition is in that alone. I remember well a remark of his on that subject.— 'Young mcu count it a high honor to become emi nenl Statesmen how much higher the honor of that instructor to makes the Statesman.* That was his view of the dignity and responsibility of the instruction ol young men. He is an eloquent and pleasing lecturer, rml I trust if he accepts the appointment, our citizens may have an opportunity of hearing and knowing the man.
